Just tried to withdraw some money for the first time from this account, and hit this same problem.
Weird, because I've had accounts with Metro Bank (current account, credit card and previous savings accounts) and never had this problem before, and the 'target' account is already correctly defined.
Edit: I managed to withdraw from the account by first transferring the money to one of my old Metro Bank accounts (actually an FTD Funding Account), which allowed me to withdraw it to the very same external account.0
