Morning all,
I've already done the video call quote which I found bizarre. They are a national company and yet do their quotes over a phone. I knew the call would almost drop out by the time we got to the garage because the wifi isn't great that far out and the mobile signal round here is dodgy toooh well we managed it just.
Last night I downloaded YNAB on my phone, and DP's phone and also started the budget online....on the free trial. We have confused ourselves already at one point we were £10,000 in debt, the next we were £16,000 in credit and neither were rightit was asking us to assign money and when we did it seemed to have assigned it twice somehow because we had assigned money but we've pressed something else which seemed to assign it or pay it? or make it available again? We still haven't quite figured out where we went wrong. We gave up. My current account is also showing about £650 more than it should have- if only it were right
We will keep on with it and see if we can get it to work for us but if not we just won't renew and pay for it after the trial. I thought it best to try it now before we move as I have time on my hands and I won't be stressing about redecorating, moving, unpacking and finding jobs and sorting kids etc. So I may persevere with some Yt videos later. I learn better by reading though rather than watching on a video that goes too quick so I might see if there is some dummy guides out there for people like me
I'm not cooking this eve we are off to a neighbour's house for a catch up and dinner., we used to work together too so a bit of a catch up on goss lol. DP is coming and he can chat to her partner about DIY as they are both enthusiasts. She has kindly offered to cook for us even though "you're so awkward dfw but I am sure I can find something you can eat" Hmmm cheeky eh lol. I have bought wine to take with us, my fave one on offer so DP actually bought two bottles of it. I have put that into YNAB under groceries - I got that bit right - yay! So our grocery spends so far this month are, £118.36/ £125.
The YNAB actually made DP feel better, I think he feels robbed every pay day. As I just leave him pocket money. But when he saw all our accounts on there (some won't link though so I have to manually update those) he was like oh! We have £3200 here, £1800 here, £300 here, £1800 here etc....and I think he felt a bit better about being "robbed" then.
Not much planned today, all washing is caught up with, housework was done before the removals quote this morning. Just the dog to walk, lunch to make and looking for ynab tutorials. I have been fasting the last few days and feel better for it. Just 18/6 but it does help my tummy feel less bloated so I will carry on I think.
Right now my new bank card has arrived I am off to finish shuffling some money around as I am determined to get our secondary EF up to £2000 before we move! Almost there....

I’m the same , I prefer a physical manual rather than an online tutorial. You can flick back to where you think you’ve made your mistake rather having to rewatch something from the start or trying to find the bit you need on the video.

Well I have spent hours (on and off) watching videos trying to understand this budget. I got most of it right, and tweaked a few things I had wrong but I am still making a mistake somewhere but not figured it out yet.My bank account is finally right on there though after deleting lots of transactions that seemed to have been put in twice.
Our EF stands at £1950 now.
We have about £120 extra in the removal/ conveyancing fund just in case of added extras. I sincerely hope that we don't get lumbered with a hugely different conveyancing bill from what they quoted as I won't be too happy. There is a tad wiggle room but not a lot.
I got my quote in from the national movers. And OWwwwwwwwwwwwwwch. No way. It is over double the cheapest and over a grand more than the most expensive one we'd had up to this pointI do NOT think so. My budget says NO to that one I am afraid.

Ah I hope you had fun Beanie ❤️😁
I had a nap before going out as I hadn't slept properly in a few days and was lagging. Woke up feeling more refreshed to DP looking frantic. He'd had a call from the sales team at the EA and our buyers have come back with the survey (how long did that take huh!!! They've sat on it for an age) upshot is they're trying to renegotiate the price they pay
You lot here know my financial situation far better than most friends in real life.
There is NO fat on the bone.
They want nearly £8k off. I am gutted, upset, angry, bewildered. Not surprised though... When they came round for their second viewing I said to DP she will use the survey to bargain. When it didn't happen I was more surprised. It has just happened way after it should have because they had the survey a fair while ago now.
We went to our friends for dinner. She just happened to live directly in front of the buyers mother 🙄 so if they were in their garden that night they would have heard us in the garden relaying what had just happened and how we felt! We literally found out twenty minutes before closing time on Friday and right before we were due at friends house.
I felt everything was going far too smoothly for me. Nothing is ever simple for me - not like this has been going. I've been trying to manage my emotions all weekend this far and doing ok. We went to the EA yesterday although the lady there isn't dealing with it directly she knows us and the buyers and the case. She said what they've done is really underhand and she's not too happy either. We are obviously well within our rights to say no. And see what happens.
We would have to go back to the mortgage company and basically take out another loan if we say yes. And I feel quite strongly about that. Effectively taking out a loan to pay for someone else's greed.
We have agreed to do some of the jobs on the list ourselves out of our pocket. We've told the EA we have 2k in an EF and I don't really want to use it but it is there. She looked suitably sad on our behalf.
The jobs on the list ranged from a new roof (oh I kid you not) even though there is nothing wrong with ours just the survey suggests houses of this age you may need to upkeep it. A new driveway (again nothing wrong with it) and many other things where there is nothing wrong even the cavity wall insulation needs doing- The EPC says it's already done!! Wth. There is nothing wrong with any of these things and the survey that they sent with it also backs that up. It's saying, houses of this age need maintenance be prepared for these things. DP thinks it's buyers remorse.
I feel so sad. We've spent all our money doing it up. We've not a penny left as you lot know ( I think the FTB look at us at our age and think we've probably paid our mortgage off little do they know we've not been together twenty years like their parents). I'm ranting now but basically everything is up in the air..
Our sale negotiator is back on Monday so we can speak to her and see what is what. We may have lost the buyer at this point though if we stand firm....so for now I'm a little sad.....MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06.
