Loving all the kitchen chat. And well done on the £200 over payment. Every little helps!
Oh cross posted. I was actually going to hold back the £200 this month for the inflated first mortgage but forgot to cancel the SO so it was like a bonus one really 🤣 even better!

Today is kitchen planning appointment day. So need to leave early as it's a lengthy drive in rush hour (should have probably booked around that oops). But wanted to say DD came to speak to me yesterday and said the holiday next year has already changed. She said, we're going to Tunisia now (with a roll of the eyes).... I guess you were all right (& DP said the same) lots of difference between saying it and booking it. I'm not fussed about Tunisia I've already taken ds1 when he was small and I went as a child too. So they can have that without me feeling like it's a personal attack 🤣😆. Right better get ready....

Oh and my tax refund is through!

yaaaaaay, just shows again you can definitely let anything they say roll right off you until the moment it actually happens, then you can let it affect you

I have just helped DD fill out her new starter forms for the new job. She was getting very stressed at the amount of forms to fill out  I said she had best get used to it as 4 forms were hardly anything compared to what I had last time. One form was really playing up and kept crashing and we lost it three times, I nearly lost my laptop through the window on the last time it was annoying me that much. It's done now though although one more form needs doing when they send through the right one (she had someone elses contract sent through by accident).

The planning appointment went well. He helped us to rejig some bits and make more cupboard space and he also used a few bits of the design I had already done to speed things up as they were in the best place. We decided (finally) on a colour for the kitchen as I was umming and ahhing over two. Then I changed my mind four times on taps, sinks and handles :joy: it is looking very nice. We opted for the measuring service and I paid for that. But I have just received an email stating they require the building works to be completed. Which they most definitely will not be! The chimney needs re-plastering, the rad needs coming out and some pipe work needs inspecting as to whether we can get rid of it. I emailed back saying what the score was on it and should I just cancel, so I will wait to see what he says. I would rather get it all done, paid for and ordered so we can get the kitchen in before September. We opted not to go to the diy showroom. I had a look at their prices and they were too much, I am on a really tight budget trying to get the kitchen, and also the new laundry area done as well as a new room made and a shower room put in - all for 10k. The kitchen so far is coming in at around £5-6k I won't know final figure until it has been properly measured. I've priced up a cheap bathroom suite for a few hundred, and we reckon if we can stick to a low budget style on all we can get it all done for this price. We're doing all the fitting ourselves so obviously saving lots on trades.

DS skived off school. He told me he was doing this 2 minutes before we were due to leave. *sigh* literally. He wouldn't budge and refused to go in. DD told me he had a project due (same one he had the other week) and the teacher isn't very nice and embarrasses everyone if they haven't done something (my response was- just do it then). But anyway he stayed home. He did however clean the whole house for me so wasn't a wasted time for me (I know I know I am not encouraging skiving for a free clean but he seriously would not budge so thought I would punish him ways that helped me.)

Right off to finish dinner and guess what- no ironing as DS has done it all and put it in everyone's rooms for me  so I get to chill out.

Well he cleaned the house.   Full marks. He could easily have downright refused to do that too.  There is a good kid there really.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

 i was impressed he swapped that with me so I took it. We got home and the floors were clean, the washing was gone and it all looked great tbf. However, when I went upstairs I found where the extra curtains (from the bay window that had been taken out) had gone, the clean UNironed washing also and several blankets - on my bed. 😏😏 So, curtains got chucked back downstairs, too late though I have a stye now from the dust off of them. The washing brought back downstairs for ironing...... I didn't grumble, I appreciated what he did do.
However I seriously need to do something about this ironing pile it really gets me down. It is never ending and I could just cry at it. I HATE this job. SO MUCH. I suppose if DS moves out i will have slightly less but DP INSISTS everything has to be ironed so piles it all up. he is more than willing to do it because he loves ironing but it is on his time frame which can range from twice a month to one time a month. i cannot be putting up with this anymore. Sadly the new kitchen and laundry area doesn't account for space for places to hide ironing out of my way. So it's in full view all the time. I need to find somewhere to keep it or lessen the load. OKay...ironing rant over. 😑😏

@Newstartforme yes I am really out of breath lately. Hayfever season isn't helping me but it is definitely because of my weight on top causing breathing issues (I also have a large chest and I don't think the tightening bra straps are helping me). I have joint pain which has only recently started for me but it really does put me off exercising, but then I know I also need to just push through it to get fitter, lose a bit of weight and then hopefully the joint pain won't be so bad....it's really hard even just starting though isn't it 😏

The bricklayers are finished! That is the foundations, the bricks done and insulation. He said next lot in would be roofers and glaziers. Once they are done it will very quickly start to look finished (from the outside at least) the inside is a whole other matter. DP is currently drilling away at the chimney breast. He's having a bit of a mare trying to get out a handful of last few bricks, same side I had an issue with ... hoping he can get them out as he's done so well so far it would be a shame to have to hire someone in for so little. He has one more lintel to put in so they have to come out *fingers crossed I can update later with it all done*. We gave the brickies some alcoholic beverages on us (actually DP can expense them for free from work which is what we will do) but they were very good and showed up every day and did the job well so we wanted to give them something.

I am shopping around for the bits to go in the kitchen- i.e we said no to the kitchen island which we want but I didn't like theirs so am looking for a good price on one elsewhere, and a cabinet also that we said no to and I wanted to source elsewhere and am looking for a range type cooker but it has to be a certain width and electric so having trouble sourcing second hand for this. I have set up alerts on fb but I think I will end up buying the cooker new, and possibly the cabinet as well. When you have awkward spaces you need exact fits 🤔 I am having fun looking though. I will also source the new shower room materials and get them in so that they are purchased and I won't run out of money for it all.

I had an email back from the measuring service and he suggested it should be okay to still come out and measure which is good even though the pipework is not done for the sink nor the chimney yet....
