  • I am currently at a similar stage DFW, I was throwing all my money at the mortgage but I have decided I need more balance so have eased back a bit to allow more holidays and fun times.
I think I'm trying to not get into the mindset I have a tonne of money. Things have been so tight for us as not only a new couple starting out but having sold two houses and bought two houses in the short time we've been together it feels like we've just been struggling so much. So we are definitely cutting down on the diy. We will do short term jobs that don't cost much for now. It was an eye opener when showing DS our budget that we've spent just in a few short months -£4k on home maintenance 🥲😬😲
So after showing DP this morning my shock at it - his shock matched mine....and we are I think both on the same page now 🤣. We have more disposable income than we've ever had together and I would love to have the mortgage paid down to a very comfortable amount...so it seems sensible in my mind to use the maintenance as that will be cut next year and then the year after that it may possibly be gone. So I said let's not get used to having that as spare otherwise we'll end up in debt once it's cut. So for the next year (once we are straight with the loan and CC) I think we'll use it for MOP. Whilst still trying to maintain that balance of having enough for fun stuff which we definitely didn't have before. I didn't realise just how cash poor we were until I wasn't any more.... Amazing how you just learn to adapt to what you have and it very quickly becomes your new normal.

  • DS is working on his CV. A work experience company has come back to him requesting a CV before agreeing to the work experience 🤔 I am wondering what they expect on a 15 year olds CV but anyway DP is down there in the office trying to help him write it.
I'm planning on a lazy day.
I've achieved quite a lot this week so I'm really pleased. I've reorganized my kitchen and bedroom cupboards/ wardrobe. I've decluttered a bag for charity. I've decided on a few bits I can sell. And I've taken DS and DD out for some nice days out (well DP obliged with the skiing that's not my cup of tea ). So I'm really happy with what we've managed to do.
Money is tight for the next week now though as I bought DD kallax and spent more than I should have on new clothes for me (no regrets there though I love all the bits). It is my birthday next week and I was hoping for a takeaway...but we will push it back to March 1st 😊 and have it within our March budget. I already have tickets paid for for the theatre for my actual birthday so I will just do a quick dinner at home first. I'm going to go down and do a meal plan and see how many meals I can make out of what I have. And do a small shop for lunches and snacks. I have around £100 left in the budget as I used some of it to pay for my clothes 🫣...still isn't this what all the pots are for? Borrowing from myself rather than the CC? 🫣🤣🤔

Spring must be in the air as the birds are out singing nice songs today, they've been very quiet all winter so it must have warmed up. The car said 15° yesterday 😲 and there were huge winds at the same time but the air was warm...very weird? Are we expecting storms from warm places? I won't moan though as it was nice to have the warm wind rather than the one that freezes your face off.

How great re the OP calcs and being able to use the maintenance money in such a positive way would be great - halving the mortgage term is amazing

on the food - causing a reaction - bloating, pain etc Buscopan really is fantastic - it really does help if you have eaten something that triggers you !
So annoying when you spend money on  a meal out and it’s not great - maybe look up reviews next time for some ideas ? Often local cafes and restaurants are better than the big chains - though we always eat well as GF DF at Miller and Carter (they do good fish and veggie as well as steak )
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • I think I'll be in charge next time LWAP I always let the kids choose as we don't usually eat out so it's a treat but they usually end up choosing chain restaurants and when it's super busy the food it always rubbish I've found. So next time I will have a look myself see what discount I can get and also look at some reviews..I think she was slightly disappointed with hers although she did eat it.
I have some buscopan! I forgot about that. I will dig it out and put some in my bag as well as keep some where I will remember to look in the cupboard.

  • So a lazy day was had. We didn't go anywhere and we didn't do the shopping- I couldn't be bothered and also I find it a bit of a challenge to see how long I can make food last and concoct new meals out of seemingly nothing 😂 mainly laziness though that kept me in I won't lie.

I had a NSD AND I made £100! I listed some furniture yesterday and it was snapped up today and collected and I have £90 in cash and £10 was sent to my pp. I will use it for that blasted loan that shall not be named any more.
I've ummed and ahhed over selling the chair and footstool as I love them but our living room is teeny compared to the old one so I decided to let it go. Funny as I've listed it before and nearly sold it then I've either been let down by buyer in which case I just unlisted it or I've not responded to buyers quick enough as I was at work and they changed their mind. Or did not reply...and I wasn't sure about selling it anyway. But yesterday I absolutely decided 100% to let it go and so it sold immediately...I find this happens a lot 😉.
So we have space, cash and and a NSD so good enough for me. This will take the loan down to £384!! Inching ever closer to it gone.

That is a prosperous weekend, well done. I am glad you made money, although shame to sell soemthing you love. If you don't have the space, you don't have the space and this is now your forever home, I think you hope it is so all should be good. That carpet loan will go in no time. Wishing you a prosperous and happy end to the month. All the bestXX

We actually got the chair and footstool for free off the side of the road...along with two large sofas - all needed a mild clean and were good as new. We knocked on the door of the (large) house they were outside and she said she had tried selling on FB and no joy and was glad to let us have them! We sold the sofas on immediately and made a few hundred and these are the last two bits to go. And I did like them but I have seen others I prefer 🫣🤣 and considering it was all profit as they were free and I am trying to make a bit of space I was happy today when they went 😁🙏🏻
