Good news on your refund. Not such good news on your sister.

  • Hope everything is OK with your sister. Glad the sweep turned out to be more honourable than we were all expecting.

  • Afternoon all,

refund is back in our accounts (yay) no message or anything from him with it. Very strange. I don't think we will be going with him after new year and will find someone else.

Xmas jumper day at work & school today, DS & I both borrowed one of DPs, DD had her own. I had a sinking feeling I was the only one in one when I turned up as I spotted lots of staff in normal clothes and there was me in the brightest red jumper with snowmen, santas & elfs on  but I went down the first corridor of the day and thankfully 5 other staff members were comparing their jumpers and all as bright as mine. One of the tutors I was with today asked me if I wanted to walk into town for chips instead of eating my lunch I had prepared (leftover dinner). I said yes to get some fresh air as the rooms were very stuffy this morning making me feel headachy, the ten min walk in was nice as we got to chat and she was very kind to me, she said she could see I was a bit down which nearly made me cry 🙈 and she treated me to chips and wouldn't let me pay for mine. Very kind. I was grateful. It's nice to make a friend or two at work, comes in handy on hard days & weeks. We sat and ate them opposite my old workplace and I told her the funny stories of what went on behind the scenes before the shop had opened on its first day. I could see everyone in there running around harassed and thought, nothing has changed. The SM was still stocking shelves, the AM was on tills, and they were short staffed as per usual. I would have been in there had I not upped and left like I did. Was a weird reflection to have.

I have had a googl3 of my sister's condition and wished i hadn't. I have heard of copd as my mum has it but wasn't all that sure on exactly what it was aside from thinking it affected the lungs. My mum's is just one condition in a long list of other conditions, but my sister's condition is the only thing she has. She has been diagnosed grade 4? Think that is what other sis said. And the prognosis didn't look good. Mental note, do not gool3 these things as they always scare you. Sis that told me seemed to be worried too about it, and I wonder if she had also looked it up.

NSD as I didn't buy the chips  and I also have £150 worth of L2S vouchers from work. I wasn't expecting them as I am new but they arrived in my inbox this morning - I am hoping they don't ask for them back and say they made a mistake because the email did say year employees for 2023-24 and I didn't technically start until 2024-25....however they are there and the code works so....?!

I have cashed out £5 on one survey site, £6 on another. Will move to a savings account when they hit my bank account.

Just tomorrow to get through. My dreaded Friday. I really don't like it at all and start feeling dread around this time every Thursday.

My friend has asked if I want to meet on Sunday for pre-christmas get together, I said yes, I had best get her a present though as I bet she will have got me one. Will have a look later for one.

DD is off to a concert on Friday night and I am a bit worried about it, she's not worldy wise and the friend she's with is far more street wise than her. And also looks a lot older than my DD -thankfully DD looks young though so hoping they're not sneaking off into big far away city for getting drunk somewhere strange where she doesn't know (is my own teen-hood coming back to haunt me  ) Anyway I want full itinerary tonight from her so I can sit and worry all evening until I hear they are safely back at friend's house afterwards. I feel like this is karma for what I used to do as a teen 🙈 although to be fair, my mother thought I was safely at a friend's house so didn't have to worry all night

Dinner tonight is pie and chips for everyone but me. I have my lunch for dinner instead, leftover cauliflower biryani.
Kids are off to their dad's next week so just one more expensive food shop hopefully this month then I can start to pull the budget back into reign before it overspills and I am stealing from other pots for it. I am debating using the L2S vouchers for the DIY we need to do in DD's room....and the cash I have put aside I can now reallocate elsewhere (L2S says you can use it at the big orange DIY shop!)

    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Enjoy your LTS vouchers and new friend experiences. My step father was diagnosed with COPD in the year 2012 it is now 12 years later and he is doing allright, admittedly I don't know what stage he was at when he started but the meds you can get are very good these days and I hope your sister is not uncomfortable and the meds are helping. Wishing you a restful evening.

Hi dfw, sorry to hear about your sister.
Very difficult when you are not on soaking terms. I have write a few patient with copd. And it doesn't seem to stop doing things. Just a bit slower!
Was she / is she a smoker? That makes a big difference to the progression.
Lovely that a colleague noticed that you might need a bit of a friendly chat and some free chips is. Nice bonus!!!
Fingers crossed that tomorrow goes smoothly!

  • My dad rode an electric bike whilst on oxygen (had copd), , travelled all over Britain in his campervan, didn’t stop him doing things. I think it’s a mindset thing. He just took life slower.

Ah thanks all ...I wish I hadn't searched it up now 🙊🙈I think the most sad thing about it is she is 41.

I'm at work and enjoying a peaceful lunch. People are dropping like flies though. Two staff gone off in the last hour with some sick thing.

Yesterday I got an email from the kids school for food bank donations and DP and I walked down to Mr T after dinner for some fresh air and exercise. It was foggy as per usual up this hill and we were drenched by the time we got there 🤣 there was a band playing Christmas music in the foyer which was lovely, and we spent around a tenner on food for the kids to take in.

The kids decided it was too embarrassing to give to charity 🙄 so I took it in this morning for them. School was grateful I think there hadn't been many donations yet this year. I hope my kids grow out of this peer pressure to look cool soon enough. The other year my DD came home from school and asked if we could do a reverse Xmas advent for food bank donations. So every day after school we'd go to Mr T and she'd spend up to a £1 on food. Then DS wanted to join in. It was really sweet. We did it for twelve days and then drove it off to the food bank to donate personally so they could see how it worked....my cute empathetic children have been replaced by teens meh. I don't like this stage much.

I have had a good morning. Only four students turned up. I persuaded the tutor to give them an easy day because it's their last Friday before Christmas break and we played football instead of work (he only had a ten minute lesson planned anyway!)
Half way through I wandered off to get a hot drink and was intercepted by beauty students needing models for manicures. I made sure it was okay to skip football (to be honest I wasn't doing much playing) and I went off and had my nails done. I naively said do what you want/ need for your qualifications. I now have neon pink nails and they're not done the best 🤣 and because they're so bright they're very obvious where the mistakes are (she's not been doing them long so no slur on her she's still practicing).

Two hours left after lunch and hopefully they will pass quickly. The math tutor is one of the poorly ones so I'm not sure what we will be doing but I doubt GCSE work. So- yay. Nearly the weekend.... DD has sent me her itinerary and I'm happy as her friend's mum and dad are taking them. Waiting outside during the concert and then taking them home.

    Okay...back to work soon.

  • I've made an executive decision. It's takeaway night for us and I've not even paid for it 😁🥳 (£50 L2S voucher)I've ordered for DS & his GF and DP & I ordered something different. DD is off with her friend this evening for a sleepover before the concert they're going to so she wasn't here to partake- am sure they're having pizza anyway.
Love a treat that is free 👏🏼.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
