And a word of advice in case you have a little boy - I was so silly as a new first-time mum I was convinced it was the nappies' fault - but little boys need er... 'positioning' to make sure the nappies don't leak... :o

Dormouse...I am having a boy & I certainly didn't know that...but then I am a first-timer so I know nothing anyway. I can see that hubby & I are going to be on a steep learning curve when he arrives!

Thank you for all the helpful replies, everyone. Tescos and Aldi certainly seem popular... a lot of it seems to come down to how they fit & personal preference, so I think I'll be doing as planned & buying anything as & when it's on offer & see which I prefer. And I also hadn't made the logical connection that tiny babies need changing much more often than bigger ones, so cheaper nappies, at least to start with, should be fine.

I was in Sainsbury's earlier & was surprised at how much cheaper their own 'perform & protect' newborn nappies were compared to the Pampers new baby ones...even with my vouchers the Pampers would still have been dearer. Hadn't really compared prices until now, I'd just vaguely assumed that the brands were slightly dearer, but there is quite a big difference.

Thanks also for the tip about the shops accepting the vouchers even if you don't buy pampers/huggies. I wouldn't have thought of trying that out...does anyone know if Sainsbury's will do that as well?

my sainsburys won't take vouchers if you don't buy the product, we stopped shopping there after we got an asda because our sainsburys is one of the expensive ones. we've got a tesco now too, nothing else though although there's a small lidl out of town - it might be worth me trying their nappies. how cheap are they?

I discovered Tesco nappies with my little boy, and am using them again on my 10mo little girl. they are at least as good as pampers, if not better! I hated huggies!

I found that the nappies I have used for my son, have depended on his age. When he was newborn I found the superdrug own brand very good. When he was a bit older (3/6months) I was using Pampers. Then I alternated between Lidls own brand (very good) and Pampers. I find that since my son has been 13 months old , he would not stay still enough to put normal nappies on, so I have used Pampers Active Fit ever since (he is now 22 months old).

  • I have a newborn son and use Tesco Nappies and they are brilliant. I was then told that they are made by pampers and branded as Tesco own. Although saying that I have just bought lots of Pampers nappies for the same price as Tescos via an offer currently running in Boots stores.

Boots are selling Pampers Economy Packs normally £8.99 each at 2 for £13.50 a saving of £4.50. They also have spend £25 and get 500 advatage card points. So if you buy 4 packs of nappies for £27 and then take off the value of the 500 points (£5) you are getting between 270 and 292 nappies depending on the sizes you buy for £22. I now have 8 large packets of nappies put away in the cupboard in various sizes all for £44 quid and money on the advatage card to spend on other essentials that go with having little ones, or to treat myself.

In Lidl they are £5.29 per pack, i got 44 in pack of junior (size 5), 24-55lbs, and 56 in midi (size 3) 9-20lbs, only bought these the other day and my oldest has started using potty so will have to save size 5's for baby when she is older.

Hi i wom a competition of a years supply of sainsburys nappies just before i had my first baby two years ago and so i was forced to use them!!
I did try huggies as we had bought some nappies before i won but i found in the small sizes that some of them just ripped at the waistband before even put on baby!!
i now have two in nappies and tesco are my fave- saisnburys are a little more expensive and i find the tesco waist bands a little more stretchy and the sizes a little bigger
pampers are ok but again i find them a little on the small side- never bought them so more expensive but doing free nappy changes in tesco have used them!!
  • We used the Asda own brand for quite a while and they were fine, no worse than Huggies/Pampers. I liked the fact you could buy a 'Big Box' for about £11 and they lasted much longer, I like to be able to stock up.

I like Tesco baby wipes, Costco ones are good if you are a member, no difference to Pampers/Johnson & Johnson etc. I never got on with Boots ones though, very wet.

Someone like Huggies or Pampers must be making all these 'own brand' nappies for the supermarkets and there probably isn't that much difference between them.

    I've been Money Tipped!
My late midwife (she was a good friend) recommended that I try Tesco nappies after I had my second son. I had huggies for my first and tried Pampers but they leaked terribly. The huggies were fine for him and then I tried Tesco ones for my second and they were great. No problems at all. If you sign up to the Tesco baby club you should get a lot of money off vouchers for them too.
