As the original poster, I thought I'd give an update and thanks to everyone for their input.
I purchased a Motorola moto g84 from Carphone Warehouse/Currys (many other places were out of stock) for £199 which included free delivery.
Special thanks to @facade for the advice on transferring data using a USB C cable - it all worked seamlessly.
I have applied to Motorola for a £56 trade-in allowance using their current offer.

Was surprised that my old G7 Power might be worth £56 as a trade-in but the T&Cs seem to exclude me since I've replaced the battery myself and I'm not an official service center.

So, this trade in offer is available from Motorola even though the new phone was via a reseller.
I just assessed my G7 Power has another year of live left (and purchased a new case) but if I can get the replacement from Argos at £99 and also £56 trade in back, that would be persuasive.
It might even force a swap for my wife's G9.
Then again, premature switching perfectly functional devices is against my sustainability preferences.

EDIT: I just looked at the Motorola website and the trade in offer does not seem to include G7 or G9 derivatives.  That is different to what you both seemed to find.

The definition of a qualifying seller in the T&Cs is a bit vague, seems to be any retailer that promotes the trade-in offer.

Thanks, but that may be moot in my case as neither the G7 Power or the G9 are listed as qualifying products.
Oddly, both @YorkshireTraveller and @flaneurs_lobster have suggested £56.

When I put my g7 power in the cashback form it was accepted without any problem.  (I might have prefaced the model with 'moto' - not sure though).

You are mistaken, that list is the NEW phones that can be bought and that qualify you to trade in your OLD phone.

There is a further list of "accepted devices" for trade-in  that the £56 is quoted in.

That website is not the finest bit of web design, I struggled to find the list as well.

EDIT : Can't see the Moto G9 on the list of trade-in-able phones.
