    I don't like the thought of giving my NI number to an American company. HMRC no problem.

    Ebay need the information to comply with HMRC's request for data.

    There is no requirement to sell online, so you don't need to comply with the HMRC requirement to provide an NI number through ebay, you can simply choose to no longer sell.

    That's the reporting limit , but NI numbers are still being requested even if you don't reach those limits.Ebay did start taking NI numbers from all new ebay users, but whether they are still doing this is unclear as ebay chop and change their procedures all the time.

    Vinted are definitely taking NI numbers from everyone regardless.
