Thanks @thriftmonster, I must admit it was tempting me but not if it's a disappointment. May I ask what model you have?
Today has been largely work - plus a short shopping trip on the way home as I forgot to soak chickpeas last night and had to buy tins, along with other bits to make a vat of chickpea tikka. I think the only other spending has been on a tee shirt from DSiL's birthday list. He likes 'nice' clothes so this isn't a basic tee shirt. I've come to the conclusion that the amount I allow for birthdays has suffered a bit from inflation so I may be adding some nice coffee or wine - not literally.
We got the microwave working twice today - yay!

I am baffled by microwave. Always have been. Anything beyond a mug of hot milk or a blast according to destructions on the side of a packet. VNM has taken to writing me instructions to reheat things when he is out. Apparently I do xx mins at one setting and xx at another and so on. Always different. How does he even know this stuff? Rhetorical question obviously
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -
My microwave use is mostly '2 minutes' - to heat milk or a portion of whatever. I'm still looking thoughtfully at those very expensive ones that are microwave/air fryer/cooker. My line of argument is that we use a microwave every day and doing the same jobs on the stove top would probably cost more and involve bigger washing up. We also use the grill about once a week and the stove top daily, usually with a couple of rings on the go and about two or three times a week the oven is on as well - usually for one portion at a time as I work some evenings. That's therefore not economical, though when the solar is installed, costs will drop. The current cooker is still going but the door has fallen off a few times (!) and the time may come when it gets beyond repair - it is probably 16 or 17 years old so it doesn't owe us. And thirdly… I am just tempted to try an air fryer. We used one on holiday and it was okay, no instant wow factor but holiday cooking isn't like everyday cooking where you have everything to hand.
The poshest potential buy (!) needs more space around it than it would have in our kitchen, but that's not the case for the cheaper ones - you pays your money and you takes your choice, I suppose, but if I'm spending out, I'd rather have a make I know and which does all the things I'd like it to do.
So today started with torrential rain and the eaves are still dripping but there was a tiny bit of sun not so long ago. I've offered to do church cleaning again, once a fortnight, so I'm tempted to go down and get that done but I also have plenty of hours to make up for work and am putting that off.
The solar people were in touch yesterday as I'd missed a couple of permissions slips they needed. Those are now sent off. This time next month we may have the workmen here! We seem to have lots happening around the middle of November but it's not to be helped and once those are done, we can play with the new toy (i.e. solar) and think about Christmas (and all the family birthdays in the interim).
And I had another go at percentages this morning and still can't make sense of one step, though the rest now seems logical enough.
