Thanks @Watty1 , I have a clear polish and if it's still useable I will try that first. Interestingly, despite being actually scrubbed, there is still a deposit of some sort on the top of the boots, just around the front. I wondered if some sort of wax has been put on, which has partly broken down, and I'm feeling slightly guilty for commenting in my feedback that the boots were sent 'dirty', though that's how it looked. However, this deposit is only in certain places and can be painstakingly scraped off, which looks a bit better if I can face doing it.
I didn't sleep too well last night and the cold is in full swing today, so I've stayed at home and had another afternoon nap. Dh made a chicken curry for dinner, but it was too hot for my taste. I've compensated since with chocolate biscuits and ice cream.
DH went out for a bike ride while I slept, and got caught in a downpour. It's raining again now - the grass is properly green again, so I'm even wondering it I can get the second application of weed and moss killer down at some point. A week ago that would have seemed useless. And now we have thunder and DS1, a couple of miles away, is saying they have a 'huge electrical storm'!

Im trying hard to like v@nted, by struggling to honest. Sold 5 items and have made just £10. I don’t put the items on for much but am amazed that people offer an even lower amount. Im not going to give the stuff away for nearly free, would rather give them to charity.
On another note I’ve noticed the gardens around by me are turning green again, mind you we have had quite abit of rain. My neighbours have just returned from a wedding down south, they said everywhere was brown and dry, except the place where the wedding was being held, somehow there gardens and lawns were lovely and green.

Thank you 😊.
Absolutely! 😁
I've put in lower offers for things - some have been accepted, some haven't. I try to offer a fair price. I get that some people will just try it on, and I'll turn down offers made to me that I think are too low. That said, I'm treating it more as a way of clearing things to people who actually want them, rather than a money maker. Any income is of course welcome, but I've spent more than I've made (my fault - but many of the things I've bought have been absolute bargains or hard-to-find older items that I'm delighted with).
I admit I paid about £8 yesterday for an older book that I've been watching for ages. I think I'd have paid that in a second hand bookshop and it's a decent copy.

Bank Holiday Monday was in part a deluge. We seem to get these in place of ordinary rain at the moment.
DH went to the shops for me and I made a couple of salads for the family pizza bake at DS1's. At the last minute I realised that despite my best efforts to spruce myself up, I still felt pretty grotty, so I sent my apologies and went to sleep instead. The cold is now into day 4 and DH has taken care of the girls for the morning but I'm meeting them later as he will really struggle with the whole day.
I'm re-reading Laura Ingalls Wilder - what a treat, though since yesterday I've been in the grip of the long winter. It's amazing how much effect immersion in a story has on one's perception of the world around: now I've finished it I can come back to the present and not think about stuffing cracks under doors to keep the blizzard out!

A further note on the boots: the seller replied to my feedback to say 'it's not dirt, it's dubbin'. I've been reading up a bit and have used a hairdryer to soften some and polished it with a cotton rag. After a few goes it looks a lot better. Some of the reading-up told me dubbin should be applied sparingly and layers built up, and I'm guessing it had been put on rather thickly as the little lumps of it on one boot are now dissolved. The boot looks quite a bit better but not quite right, and when compared with the un-cleaned boot (which was the better one), the difference is obvious.
I've never used dubbin before so I'm learning something.

I've gradually livened up as the day went along. Bless him, DH took the children most of the time, only to be forbidden by DGD1 to join in the Princess game. This always happens with her games, but the two of them had just spent ages sitting in our car with Grandpa, discovering things. From his report, they mostly discovered that it needs cleaning. All sorts emerged: a couple of pounds in change, five biros, a meercat. As far as I know they didn't find the sea shells or the digeridoo under my seat.
We called in at the supermarket for a few foodstuffs and some cold medication, not much spent.
DH is now buying a railcard as he intends to get the train to London to see a car tomorrow. I've had the initial quote back for solar panels (just shy of £12,000), booked the carpet cleaner for 9th and had confirmation that my new job will be 14 hours and 48 minutes a week. You couldn't make that up.

DH is now London-bound. He has costed a charging cable for the new car (I wonder if one comes with it?) and spent a bit of time sorting out insurance.
I need to pay off my credit card and have a tidy round. Last night was slightly disturbed as the cold has moved to my throat and I have a bit of a cough, so I lost sleep. I might have another rest after lunch. First I need to message my new colleagues to see if anyone is travelling to tomorrow's meeting from round here. I've checked public transport and it's possible but not easy - trains involve a two mile walk at the other end and buses don't run after mid-afternoon! This wasn't a problem last term as I could use the late morning bus and had a lift home.
I think there are also some online training courses to catch up on for work.
Well, there's a lot to get done, very little of it urgent. I must pace myself as there's only so much energy. However, there's washing to go on the line and a blind that fell down last night might be reinstate-able.

I had a text to say DH has the car, so now he's heading back… here, it's rained steadily. It's finally remembered how to do it, encouraged by me putting a load of washing on the line. I've now relocated it to the airer and spent the rest of the day online.
I completed a compulsory work course and have booked myself onto another. Showing willing. A new colleague has offered me a lift home tomorrow which makes things simpler, though in a minute I'm going to set out to find the right bus stop for the morning. There was a work request to fill in a CV pro forma to record CPD, which took ages as I'd not kept a record of the classes I've helped with. It's never been asked of me before and I left out the breadmaking one that got called off due to bad weather. I think I've gone through nearly all the backlog of work emails though there will be some archived ones that will never see the light of day again.
Off I go into the grey outdoors, to find a bus stop, buy a notebook and go to work.
