I didn't know about that @Liselle, thanks. I'll try to have a look tomorrow while I'm in town.

I have the same problem with iron tablets cherryfudge and so does my mum. After years of hunting and a lot of wasted money we both can take H&B iron tablets with vitamin C. The vit C helps with absorption.

Thanks for mentioning the iron spray, I'm unable to take iron tablets as they cause me to have an upset stomach. I now feel there is a way forward for me 🤗

And on that note, I've just contacted 'B1ng' about their AI advice, which makes it sound as though people on Levothyroxine shouldn't take iron with Vitamin C. As far as I can tell, iron should be taken with Vit C, but nowhere near when you take Levothyroxine.

Bear in mind this is my reading of the situation - I'm not medically qualified. I just thought the AI advice read as though people taking Levothyroxine shouldn't have Vit C. Which goes to show AI advice should be taken with a pinch of salt - and that's not medical advice either. 😁

It's obviously my day for complaining as I've just had DH email the roofing company before we pay. When we got home yesterday, they had removed an old aerial as we'd asked them to, and as far as I know replaced two slates that had cracked. They've also taken away their 'escalator' that carried tiles up and down. However, the aerial had either fallen or been thrown from the roof and landed in the acer. It's still there, along with the branch it broke. 😨I also asked DH to mention the pallet of slates that was left obstructing the road, and the general messiness of water bottles and cigarette ends, nails and slate chips, and asked him to suggest that they advise future customers to cover grass and gravel before work starts. It will take me quite a while to get the grass back to a mow-able state and pick the sharp chips out of the gravel so it looks okay and is safe for animals to walk over. Oh, and then there was the moan that the scaffolders could have asked us to remove any plants in the way of the scaffolding, instead of letting us come home to find the scaffolding foot planted firmly on some irises. We as customers can't know exactly what the impact of the work will be, but they as workers - who appear to have done a very smart job of the actual roof - must see this everyday and it would make a big difference it they'd let us know in advance so we can stop some of the damage before it happens.

By the way, I asked DH to write the email because he's a lot more tactful than I am.

    End of rant. 😤🙄😉

So anyway… yesterday was work: I was really pleased with how the afternoon class went. To fill time at the end we had a spelling competition and I amazed myself by getting hors d'oeuvres, narcissistic and bourgeoisie right without a spell checker. 😁Only the first was based on actual knowledge so I must be a good guesser and also acknowledge the input of a certain green owl to help with spelling anglicised French words.

Next week is half term so no class. I worked three hours at the cleaning job in the evening and I'm back there tonight, then straight out with DH and DS1 to see The Mandalorian and Grogue. Looking forwards to that - I'm the original Star Wards fan. It will mean a very quick change unless I'm given a short shift, though.

Today is set to be hot: at eight o'clock it was already as warm out of doors as indoors. What a contrast from a couple of days ago! The ground is still wet from yesterday's showers but once it's dry, I'm going to start tackling the lawn. First the bits of slate need to be picked out of the grass near the house, then the dead moss needs to be raked out - I've lost track but I think it's about three weeks since the treatment was applied. Lastly I should try to get the mower through it - shears might be needed in some areas though. I'm not going to try to move plant pots back until the scaffolding has gone.

I managed a load of washing yesterday but there are lots of oddments that don't fit with a mixed wash, so I'll try to catch up. I was going to finish the church cleaning but the area I haven't yet done is in use today so DH suggested we go in tomorrow afternoon.

Time to get a shift on.

I've been trying to resist being overwhelmed by so many things I want/need to get done now that I finally have a good opportunity. I've decided to tackle the next thing, then the next thing - whatever rose to the top of the 'bothering me' list. First off was shampooing my hair and doing some facial skin care, both of which mysteriously do move me on mentally.

The admin for Sunday's team meeting has been started, and I had a call from the sewing machine shop to say they can't get my machine to do what I said it was doing (or, more accurately, it's behaving very well for them and doesn't for me). After a short discussion she said she thought the problem was the thread: I'd been using cheap thread and the machine wants something with a better finish. I can entirely see what she means, and the mechanic has it running well even with my thread, so all I can do is try again with something more costly. The irony is that I'd used cheap thread to try to get it working as I didn't want to waste 'good' thread! We live and learn.

I hope to collect it tomorrow.

I've been slowly loading the washer up and have a timer on for the stain remover bucket to finish so I can add those bits to the wash. I was also hoping the boss of the roofers would come round as DH texted to say he would, but he's probably waiting till the end of the working day. He's been very good, it was some of the crew who were the problem.

While waiting for the stain remover to work, I've started raking the lawn then paused that to bring in the logs that a neighbour cut for us from the fallen tree in the back lane. I've just stacked them under the trees in the garden for now and while I was doing so, noticed a large hedgehog, clearly no longer with us as there was no sign of breathing or startle reflex, but couldn't have been there long as it was in good condition. I was wondering where to bury it as I fetched more logs (31, some large enough to be the centre of the fire for a whole evening, some smallish or middling). Then I came back into the garden with the next lot of wood and the hedgehog had gone! Clearly a skilled actor.

The washer is now on and so is the sun cream. Too breezy for me to feel the heat completely but definitely time to keep up the fluids. I will go and tackle a bit more moss.

I agree Cherry, when overwhelmed I address my hair care, etc.I think it’s something to do with “now I’m ready for anything.”

I take Levothyroxine too.The iron spray is just iron, but I also use a multivitamin spray.Have done so for some time with no problems.

That's it: if the TV crew turns up at the door, at least the world will see me looking glamorous respectable. Or, as Flylady said, it's like putting your lace-up shoes on. It signals readiness to something in you.

Work was rather full-on. I covered the same area as yesterday but there had been some big, catered meetings. I had permission to finish early if there wasn't much to do, but in fact it went the other way: there were four catering trolleys (I think the most I've seen in this job is two) and while it wasn't too heavily crumbed, the heat meant there had been lots of drinks. I texted management and said I doubted I'd be finished early, and could I have some snacks! (And I got permission, boxed some up and stuck them in a fridge, so that was then a ready-made meal). There was a lot of clearing up to do, but I got round the jobs in time and had time to get changed before meeting DS1 and DH to see the film.

We've had a good evening: the local cinema is very comfortable and pricy and the film was good, though I'm perhaps a bit beyond being as enthralled as I was when I first saw Star Wars. I was well fortified by the sandwiches so I just got an icy peach tea to see me through. When we got home, I finished the cheese sandwiches and some Rocky Road, then I was good and threw out anything meaty as they had been sitting in a warm car.

Today I've had a couple of expenses: the balance of the roof payment was £8,175 and the drinks were about £7!

Saturday was notable for bargains and healthy outdoor activity, as well as being the hottest day of the year so far. We got the benefit of warmth, but there was a cooling breeze so it was pleasant.

In the morning DH and I drove out to the car boot sale. He didn't buy anything. I, however, did well. Firstly some small ceramic containers for the bathroom in an unobtrusive white that hopefully blends in. Then three books: The Diary of a Farmer's Wife, 1796-1797 (which my Mum had and my sister inherited: I fancied reading it again); Farmhouse Fare (a 1973 edition of a book of recipes sent to Farmers Weekly in 1935) and Jambusters, which I've just started and which is about the Women's Institute during the war. So far, really well written and drew me in straight away.

By this time, people were packing away and I stopped to ask how much? over a basket of small hand creams and related oddments. I can always do with a hand cream small enough to carry with me. She offered me the whole box for 50p as they didn't want to take them home! I've since sorted through and passed a few items on as donations but the whole haul came to 3 small spatulas, a plastic fork, 4 phone cases, false nails, 2 eye shadows, 3 lipsticks, 2 pumice stones, 6 bath bombs, 9 hand creams and a body scrub. It occurred to me to set some of the hand creams aside in the presents box as I usually put something similar in Christmas stockings. They are all still sealed.

After this bargainaceous fun, we drove back via the sewing machine shop to collect my machine. I've not yet tried it out but they said there was nothing wrong with it apart from the bottom tension being a bit loose and me using cheap thread! Instead of £65 for servicing, they charged me nothing! I felt I kind of owed it to them to make sure they got some money, so I bought a couple of sewing threads, total about £6.

Dinner was breaded fish, couscous and peas followed by some of the cake from yesterday, while watching the final of Race Around the World.

In the afternoon I started to tackle the garden: it will take a while to pick off the bits of slate out of the grass and gravel and the scaffolding is still up so I couldn't start moving pots back or doing much right by the house. Instead we spent about three hours mostly raking moss out of the grass. 12 buckets full, and counting. The more I got out, the more I found. Some patches consequently look very scruffy but I'm hoping the grass will thicken now it's not competing with moss. After that I was able to take the mower over it and it looks much more like a lawn. I also saw the neighbour at the back - I don't know his name - and got his permission to paint our side of his back fence. I'm hoping that will lighten the area, but I now need to find out what treatment to use on the wood beforehand. It's quite rough and weathered.

DH decided to go up on the scaffolding (I footed the ladder) and check the roof and gutters. This turned into fun as we rigged up a pulley to hoist a bucket and mop up to roof height. He's swept out the gutter and dangled the mop to clean the slate chippings off the upper window sills.

While we were doing this, DS1 was in London watching the Hull/Middlesbrough match. He's enjoyed it despite not being on the winning side.

After tea, DH helped me finish the church cleaning - remind me not to volunteer for that set of jobs in a hurry! - and I've done some paperwork for the Sunday morning group.

I’m glad you got your sewing machine sorted out and there’s a simple solution. I used to have one that didn’t like cheap thread.

What a great haul for 50p. I like those little handcreams to keep in my make up bag, they’re very useful.

I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping) -.literally have been run over by a bike, mobility scooter and a car - still here 💪
