@cherryfudge - in our experience when my sister died, the power company chased for repayment despite having had it all paid off, and when we eventually proved that we had paid it all, my dad insisted that my nieces had a letter on their official headed notepaper to state that nothing was owing.
two years later they demanded repayment of the non-existent debt again, and refused to accept their own evidence. Dad had to pay for a lawyer's letter to make them acknowledge (again, in writing) that no debt existed.
finally, six years later, one niece landed a dream job, entry-level in a prestigious finance company.
Three days later they withdrew the job offer, because the power company had listed her as having a very poor credit score because she had not paid... you guessed it...
so even though it's only a penny, please don't let it just go. Dying won't actually stop them pursuing it.2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Well I certainly wouldn't be paying that bill without at least 2 reminders. I don't suppose their backbilling rules cover that. How much is 1p anyway., less than a quarter of a kilowatt. Alternatively find a number that is free to call & ask them for a copy of the previous bill so that you can check on the discrepancy. Do not make it easy for them.1

It beggars belief!! It must have cost them a lot more than 1p to send the letter 😞I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

OMG - utterly ridiculous - this is the type of story that needs to be posted on their social media account and on the CEO's l!inked!n account!
4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)Original Date - Sept 2041 New projection - Jan 2040 (redcuced by 20 months)1 -
that is almost unbelievable!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!1 -
It's truly ridiculous, especially as there has been nothing for so long, but for the sake of 1p, I set up a bank transfer and they have the money. I can't be sure but it may date back to the fact the meter rolled over back to zero during lockdown, but none of us can go back to find out exactly what happened. (Though it's just occurred to me that they could just have subtracted the last known reading from the full count that the meter could reach, and charged us for the difference plus whatever accumulated on the meter in the meantime).
Dinner was our usual Saturday fish with cous cous, peas and a new thing - DH bought some vine leaf wraps with delicious insides off the market. We will get those again though we don't know what they're called. The stall does Arabic food so we know what to look out for.
In the afternoon, DH helped me with the church cleaning - there's certainly a lot less to do under the new regime, though as usual I found more to do and he had to encourage me to stop. We walked there and back, so exercise has been had, despite no recent running. It's odd that three degrees seems relatively mild after the recent cold snap, but perhaps that's due to my 'duvet' coat.
Called in at M&S on the way back and bought a large pineapple and a tub of blueberries half price, then to T3sco for various other bits.
I've collected my Vinted parcels: some sparkly sandals which I'm happy with and which will be good if we have anything party-ish over the winter, and a book to read to the girls.
This evening I've done the rota for the next term's Sunday mornings. Good to have that out of the way though there's generally something to change. January and March were the tricky ones as I'm sharing staff with another team on those months. Other than that I seem to be ahead of other teams so I may have to adjust a few people if, for instance, the band needs someone to cover the same week as I have them helping the little ones.

In Greece those stuffed vine leaves are dolmades. If I remember correctly they are called sarma in Arabic & in Egypt mahshi. I think in Turkey anything stuffed is a dolma, but in particular those vine leaves! I agree they are particularly yummy & when L!dl has Greek week, we usually pick up a tin for pickety bits night.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Surely four years would mean they are not allowed to send a bill? Honestly though a bill for a penny? Madness4

DH thinks these are Arabic, and that may be right, so thank you and I will look up sarma. We had another one each with dinner and they remain delish.rtandon27 said:In Greece those stuffed vine leaves are dolmades. If I remember correctly they are called sarma in Arabic & in Egypt mahshi.
