Well that will teach me to read the notes in my meds.  I read them very thoroughly when I first started taking thyroxine but that was almost 40 years ago.

So, Wednesday... the morning work went okay. Good to have my newly trained colleague alongside: I felt we both had our separate things to contribute, and what's more, he kindly gave me a lift home afterwards so I didn't have to carry my laptop.

I was pretty tired in the afternoon and dozed off briefly but I also did about 40 minutes of garden work. Every time I return to that patch by the back door, more fragments of green plastic have come to the surface! I'm telling myself that there must be a finite number of them. At least more ground elder has gone. Oh, and having attached the remains of the old hose to the rain water butt, a slow leak has become a trickle and the container is half empty. Now do I empty it all over again and try to seal round the tap, or just give up and buy another?

I was too tired to go to the shops so I decided to put the emergency supplies to the test and made a corned beef curry. DH liked it enough for seconds which is as well as he's been cautious about anything that might trigger discomfort. I'd loaded the curry a bit with turmeric and cumin so I hope they did their anti-inflammatory stuff and help him feel better.

Dinner revived me and we went off to the church business meeting and afterwards I got chatting to the new team leader for cleaning. I know her anyway - she lead the pre-school children's session before me and we'd had a training day together. She's good to work with.

I don't think I've been to any shops - sometimes it's hard to remember by the end of the day what I've done!

To be fair to you both, I think the instructions have become more precise over recent years. I remember taking note when the pharmacy label suddenly started to include more information.

Lots of bitty spending today. I helped at the toddler group which is always enjoyable, then had a coffee with the lady who line-manages my Sunday morning role. My turn to pay, and we went to the posh hotel down the road as I'd never been there before. They do a good cappuccino.

It was a good catch-up and a bit of looking ahead, then I got shopping on the way home. I'd forgotten bags, so had to include a couple of 'bags for life', along with sundry things to take with us this weekend and a few groceries for my niece who will be in the house after us. Not a lot as I don't want to undermine her independence, but prices are higher there than here.

I didn't have lunch till late (more fish finger and pepperoni sandwiches!) and managed to get a load of laundry washed and almost dry before work. On the way home I called in at L!dl for some more food, partly to replenish stores, including tinned items that could be an atypical but useful meal should we both be unable to cook for some reason. I noticed when I was so tired yesterday that actually my stores are short on protein items so corned beef and tinned vegetarian chilli have been included.

My late dinner was the remains of the butternut squash stew from the other day.

DH's condition is definitely playing up in the absence of the medication he used to have, but he contacted the specialist nurses and they are getting him a new steroid which cleverly limits its effects to where it's needed. He will have to go to the big hospital to collect it but we can do that on our way through tomorrow.

    Expenditure:
    Entertainment £7.60
    Pets £1.99
Stationery 50p (yes, you really can still buy 10 pens for 50p! I'm not sure how good they'll be but they will tide us over till my favourite ones come on offer for the new term).
    Toiletries 95p
    Housekeeping £33.51
    Gift £5.32

The pens seem to work quite nicely. Bargain.

I slept in a bit this morning and it's been a slow start but we will finish up the corned beef curry before we go and we're only away a couple of days so we're not needing to take much. I ran the washer again but then it started to rain, whereupon I watered all the tubs and set things up so the plants will survive the next round of heat. I don't trust the rain to be enough to water the garden, but I didn't factor in having the laundry watered too.

I've just texted a couple of friends: I've realised I can't be there for a funeral on Monday but I've let them know and have a link for the live stream. Then another friend lost a family member tragically yesterday and I wish I knew how to help but I expect they will be travelling to support other family members. So sad.

And now I really must do my packing and not repeat the experience of a few years ago when I forgot to put my case in the car!

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
