I think someone ought to take you up on that - it would make great TV! Only not up in this area: @Miró will have bought most of the best stuff already.Rosa_Damascena said:All this fuss made about Sir Keir accepting gifts...I could take Lady Vic down to the chazzer and get her kitted out for under a tenner

As a connoisseur of the second-hand book I agree with you. The counter argument is that in most chazzers the selection is random and for me that is part of the delight, stumbling across the unexpected gem when least expected (yesterday for example I saw ProustCherryfudge said:Further shopping to confess to: there’s a chazza in Melrose called something like Heart chest and stroke which is very boutique-y but worth a look. I found two pairs of jeans the right length for me, (£7 and £5) and a storage jar for £2.50. The books were trendily arranged by colour which looks good but makes searching by author tricky. I feel I am very unlikely to buy a book because it’s yellow or blue but I’m quite likely to buy one on the strength of having liked another by the same person. However, it’s horses for courses and there will be people for whom it works.

). The rainbow approach maintains that random subject schema but I guess might add to the overall aesthetic appeal of the shop as a whole, so may suit the merchandiser and customer alike.
Having vowed not to buy anything else after the tiresome exercise of "decluttering" but in fact weeding out very little, I bought a bodycon dress from Roman, a Per Una smart cardigan in pink and a Phase Eight fine knit beaded sweater. And the obligatory book (Graham Greene short stories).

I've recently had a clear out of my clothes, partly due to a drop in size and partly because I had far too many that weren't worn. I am now being quite circumspect when browsing in chazzers so I have a small list of items I am actively seeking, which always has cashmere & silk scarves on it!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Gorgeous dress, @Rosa_Damascena, and that juxtaposition of Proust and Jeremy Clarkson is weird and wonderful!
@Floss, I've been lucky with cashmere but never found a silk scarf. Do you remember when very lightweight silk scarves, in any colour you care to think of, abounded? I had bright yellow and dark green, and a sky blue shawl in the same material. Still got them all somewhere.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I wanted a silk pillowcase (they are very good for your hair) but the cheapest I could find was £30. Then by chance I found a lovely silk scarf in one of the CSs - I think it was £1.50. Attached some lining material on the other side and hey presto. I felt a little bad as it was an expensive scarf, but I didn't cut it just in case I ever wanted to unpick and use it again. Would love to find another and make a spare.Cherryfudge said:

If it's something you're using regularly, it could be you are making maximum use of the silk, far more than if you had kept it in the form of a scarf. Good idea, though, to make it revertible (if there's such a word).SandyShores said: I felt a little bad as it was an expensive scarf, but I didn't cut it just in case I ever wanted to unpick and use it again. Thank you Cherryfudge, yes its used every night. Stops frizzy hair/bedhead so very useful. And revertible is a word - not one I've ever used, but to return to previous state according to the G00gleCherryfudge said:

Oooh, I found a b/n silk pillowcase in a chazza about a year ago for about £6 and loved it. Bought a couple of 'genuine silk pillowcases' from Amazon, clearly fakes. Got a refund.....eventually! Still on the lookout! Never thought about converting scarves 🤔SandyShores said:
