@Crazycatlady2, resisting the electric scrubbing brush... I applaud you, I would love one! Seriously though, its the small buys like that which are more difficult to walk away from. Well done xCurrent debt approximately 5000

"Shopping from home" - I've got a couple of small ottomans in the hall which I thought were stuffed with plastic bags for life but to my surprise actually had loads on BNWT flip-flops (all outdoor shoes are confined to a small space) and also comfortable smart work shoes.
Its the 7th January and I have managed 2 NSDs so far. Friday was just 25p on a book on sale in the local library, so I ended up thinking "what the heck" and splashed out on a new electric blanket. It was on the list of things I wanted to buy but I may have thought twice about buying it exactly then had I not already broken the NSD ambition late that date. So far I have managed to keep out of supermarket which is a good thing. There is plenty in the freezer that needs running down this quarter.
My new microwave has arrived and is ready for action, but I seem unable to part with the old one! Fear of the new one going kaput I suppose and also... a big part of me wants to keep the new one "clean". So the new one hasn't actually been used yet, I just moved the old one and am continuing to use that.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.6 -
My only spend this week apart from food was 12 quid at Argos for a new duvet. My duvet was so old that it predated the use of tog ratings and in winter it needs blankets on top, so I think a new duvet was justified - and I can’t believe how beautifully warm it keeps me.I now need to decide whether to recycle the old one or keep it for summer use. Keeping it would be a more viable option if only I could find Vaccuum pack bags that actually work.7

I bought a pair of leggings for yoga which I needed but the only other things I’ve spent money on so far is basic necessities like milk , porridge , toilet roll etc and transport to work and back. I’ve put some weight on since stopping smoking months ago so I’m going to go through all clothes tomorrow to make up different outfits by mixing and matching stuff , wearing jumpers or shirts over dresses etc. I haven’t got much now so that’s should make it easier xCurrent debt approximately 5000

One week done. I have bought nothing . I have spent money on things like coal, physio for the horse and food and some of the food I didn't really need but was stressed and overwhelmed. So that was a good learning experience.
I also went to a local shop to get a treat ball for a horse as part of his physio routine and enjoyed looking round in the knowledge that there was nothing on my "allowed list" so I could view and leave. That was nice.
I did buy some garden plants but that is allowable spend here as garden renovation and house renovation are on the allowable spend list.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!8 -
Hello, I'd like to join this thread as well. I have declutered so many times but stuff keeps making its way back into the house. I felt really overwhelmed last year for my birthday as I got so many gifts I hardly knew where to put them and I felt the same at Christmas this year. It's not that I am ungrateful for the items it just feels too much.
I do have some essential spends this month - a new pair of walking shoes are a must. I was out walking on New Years day and my old ones gave up.

A few years ago I realised I had far too many toiletries so in advance of Christmas I let people know this! As a result I only have one person who regularly gives these now, and I can cope with that (though its taken years to get through the hand creams and I'm not there yet!) Similarly, I often get given ground coffee, so I contacted the givers and said I really appreciated it but I have lots at present so would they mind not giving me any this year so I can enjoy what I have. I didn't mention that I'd had to give several bags away because they will be years old at present rate of consumption! There's a whole discussion possible about 'regifting', but that takes a lot of organisation as you don't want things to go back to the giver, or anyone the giver is likely to invite round!
My idea of a great gift is coffee shop vouchers, because then I can go for free and treat a friend.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Week 1 of 52 and so far 2 things in and 6 NSD's. Also started some decluttering at the weekend and managed to donate 110 things to charity (mix of clothes and cook books). Still a long way to go but a strong start!
Just remembered that DH did bring home a bunch of bath stuff that MiL is passing on to me. It was a bunch of stuff she got for Christmas but she doesn't have a bath so things like bath salts are apparently of no use to her. Yes it's additional "stuff" for me but it will get used over the course of the year and means less things I have to buy for myself 😃Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20178 -

Looking forward to a no- buy year. Like others it'll probably be low-buy rather than no-buy.3
