I'm trying harder to spend on less stuff. This year we are replacing the front door and 3 windows and I'd really like a new kitchen so am pricing that up and see where we are
5 if us in house so always seems to be something needed but 2 eldest have jobs so but more for themselves now and most of things youngest needs comes out of his disability money so although I can't work I feel I should be more careful not to waste money and bring more stuff into house4 -
I’m reading along and finding this thread really interesting.
i am certainly cutting back on spending, but couldn’t do a no buy year. So will follow along with a reduced/mindful spending year. Obviously bills etc will need to be paid and food are essential spends, I will also include a holiday and things/experiences and any needed replacements as essential but definitely don’t need any new clothes and other ‘stuff’ I seem to buy when browsing online.
So it will be more about considered, planned or mindful spending for me, for example I have a new baby granddaughter and a grandson due in a few months and have offered to buy his pram like I did for my granddaughter a couple of months ago, this is budgeted for and saved for and although not essential spending is something that I want to do for my family.

Thanks @Coffeekup, good point about growing high value crops!
Thanks @-taff, it's not quite that situation, we all work on separate long term projects, but you make a good point about reading upon conflict resolution.
Thank you @weenancyinAmerica and @Cherryfudge, scan indicates renal cancer, which is usually a secondary cancer in cats apparently. So she's still here, but will definitely need an op or chemo if further tests show further treatment is beneficial. She's only ten, my first (with my other cat) furbabies and I don't have human babies, I think this might be one of the hardest things I'm going to go through.Statement of Affairs (SOA) link: https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/financecalculators/soa.phpFor free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Oh, that is a hard position to be in @kimwp, possibly harder for you than for your cat who can't think about it in the same terms as you. I hope they can find a beneficial treatment.

sending you a virtual hug @kimwp I hope they can sort this out though cat may then be on a kidney special diet for life as one of my family's cats now are.
I had 2 beautiful pedigree cats and they are still in my heart 16 + 17yrs they got to.. Trust your own instinct about what to do and when it is time to let them go - somehow they let you know.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The "shopping from home" idea I've read on these forum is really good as it makes you think again and be mindful about what you already have or can make. I wanted to buy a good mat for muddy, wet shoes to put in the hall way, I had carpet and underlay off cuts left from about 4 years ago, so I made one out of that instead. The shopping from home thing weirdly makes me feel like I've got more, but may be that's just me lol xCurrent debt approximately 5000
Goal- Zero debt by mid 2025
Savings in 2026- an emergency fund of 50008 -
Shopping from home is a brilliant idea. I’ve never heard of it before but I must be able to shop from home given the amount of stuff I have here!Buy less will certainly be on my agenda this year. My DH retired last autumn and it’s really hit us as to how much we miss his income. Not so much that we can’t tick over but that if we spend savings it’s nigh on impossible to replace them. I feel that if I buy less, I save more and can replenish on the big spends. Also we always spend more at Christmas than we think we’re going to. Crazy how much is spent. When we spent over £50 on turkey at the local butcher my youngest son said “That’s madness! Two chickens next year mum.”I’ve started inviting friends round for coffee instead of the coffee shop, made large lists of freezer and cupboards to avoid the supermarket. Not CS or donating clothes or shoes if I think there’s another use for them.We can only try. 😊6

Today I brows d but didn't buy jeans, electric scrubbing brush for floors and a kindle tablet cos I read somewhere you can get 20% of if you trade in old one. I did however buy my son's incontinence supplies and a washing machine cleaner fluid5
