If it isn't broken, why are we trying to fix it??

Already in the nominations each month there is a good mix of bargain of the month or just plain helpful user of the month.

As a board guide there is no way I would want to have to pick out any user for post or thread of the month. Particularly difficult in the Telephone Boards as on the one hand there are the mobile phone deals but in the Home Phones there are a number of users who spend a great deal of time talking through switching phone providers for hesitant newbies.

As it happens this month I have nominated two of "my guys" for their unfailing help to all but there are also many others I could have nominated this month who fit that category.

I think perhaps it might be an idea to have a "bargain" and "helpful post" of the month and split the £50 but as regards voting, sorry but the lobbying and asking for thanks is enough of a problem without bringing in polls.

I agree with everything written above by Edinburghlass....especially the split of the gift between helpful and bargain. There are people on the threads who by the nature of what they do are helpful.....not offering bargains and vice versa.

I personally think it is fine as it is as well but could it be advertised more - to get more nominations / votes ?

Is there no way of finding the most thanked post?

Hey, great idea. Every month people come up with some great instant money saving offers that loads of people can use, and save a few quid - really neat.

But also, some people who make "helpful" posts, can and do make a really difference to a relatively small number of members (often those who most need the help) which make a real difference. Hence, I congratulate the member who showed me how to get a brand new phone for .97p, but what can I say about the member who helped and supported me claim an extra £30 per week in benefits for my son, which for him could amount to £30 a week for the next 38 years? (a possible total of around £58,000).

Although I agree simple is probably best, maybe there could be 2 categories as suggested? And if time permits, how about a "role of honour" in each of, say five members, and a final winner in each? I'd also suggest that it doesn't need 2x£50 prizes, but maybe just 2x£25.

I agree there should be a split between actual money saving posts and really helpful advice posts.

If it is going to stick to money saving, then I doubt any member could top advice given that brings a potential £58,000 return. Sadly though I expect it will be something rather more frivolous that wins.

I dont think a poll is a very good idea as its open to abuse.

I think there's a problem with having 2 categories, ie when is a post "helpful" and when is it "bargain", there is no clear definition.

This is where common sense steps in, bargains would be the purchase of a product or service at an exceptional price eg some of the "Boot's" bargains, where as a helpful post would be more about solving a members problem. The final decision would lay with Martin / MSE Team, if they choose to go down this route.
