Yep, I think it's down to the MSE team. If they choose to split between most money saving for the most members, and the most helpful post, I don't reckon it's that hard to make a choice each month.

However, despite my enthusiasm for the split, I can see the logic in keeping it simple.

What about having two separate awards?

'Top Tip of the Month' and 'Most Helpful Poster of the Month'.

That way you can reward people who find a good offer and share with everyone else as well as those people who offer more general advice and support across the forum.

I'm a lurker rather than a poster but I have noticed that the post of the month seems to go to either a post that doesn't bring much in the way of savings but a lot of effort was put in like June's award for the phones, or it goes to a post that brings savings by pointing out a special offer, like May's award for the Boots offer. Would it be fairer if there were 2 smaller prizes, one for each sort of help?

I think splitting the prize is a good idea, in the same way as Jo_b's idea, that way, people who are on here just posting advice etc or helping others are getting a look in, as some of us dont post on the bargain/freebie boards that often, and the winners often seem to come that way.
