I completely understand. I just hope that you get to the point, soon, when you’re out of pain and able to do all the activities you want to do.Laura_Elsewhere said:
And yep, that is indeed the plan!PipneyJane said:@Laura_Elsewhere, when you get to the point where you can’t stand the waistband any longer, may I suggest running a lifeline into the row of stitches above it and then snipping a stitch on the next row down and unravelling from there? You can then knit downwards from the stitches you secured with the lifeline, lengthen the jumper if you wish, and correct the waistband.

Hi Pip, whilst you were at the oval on the 7th, I was at Canterbury. DH and I watched Kent beat Somerset by four balls, 4 wickets 😀👏PipneyJane said:
Thanks for the reminder @MrsCD. I am going to the rugby union grand final tomorrow at Twickenham, so will definitely be knitting in public. (My sister and brother-in-law are over from Oz. It’s a treat for him to go to Twickenham for a game. We were at The Oval tonight for a T20. Too cold to knit!)MrsCD said:Just a shout out to remind everyone that Saturday is National Knitting in Public Day! I'm going out for a cuppa with my friend in the morning, and taking some knitting!

Hi Laura, good to hear that the physio is starting to work. Keep going with it. I am now 4+ months into my physio, oh what a difference. I saw my physiotherapist again today and have been given more exercises which will help me to get back to swimming.Laura_Elsewhere said:I am not going anywhere today so shan't be Knitting In Public (although I shall always treasure the time I was standing on a crowded frantic busy rush-hour Platform One at Wolverhampton, and a frazzled exhausted woman dashed along and suddenly stopped, gazed and then told me she felt completely different now, how soothing it was to see me standing there just calm and serene and knitting, and that she thought it was a public service and every station should have one!!)...
... but I am very glad that I am now able to knit! My old spinal problem has been having one last effort- now that so much of me is now fitter and stronger once more (although very very overweight), my shoulders decided to stage an attention-seeking series of twinges which gradually reduced my range of movement, so for some months I have had to have Mr E help me dress and undress, have to be very careful what I wear when I go to swim and even so, occasionally have to ask for help, and have been unable to knit at all... finally, thanks to an excellent physio, I am now able to knit for 5-10 minutes if I am very careful to ensure my shoulder-blades are rotated back and lying flat before I start and do stretches afterwards!2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

Guess who forgot to bring a coat on her trip away with her DS and BIL? Me. In my defence, DH distracted me with the house keys, as I was locking up, thus interrupting my train of thought, so I left my anorak hanging in its usual place in the porch. After going through most of the charity shops in Whitstable yesterday, I found one in the Demelza Hospice charity shop in Rochester this afternoon. £15 spent on a dark navy, hooded and belted, “Snowdonia” branded anorak. It’s from one of the catalogues - the one with Williams in its name - but, weirdly, the button flap and press studs are the wrong way around for a woman. Also, the sizing appears a bit off; it says it’s a UK size 20, but I reckon it was cut to fit a regular size 16. Fortunately, this is not an issue for me, but I’d be very disheartened if I were a shopper from that catalogue and thought I’d put on weight because my “size” was too tight..
No coupons spent, since the coat was second hand.

PipneyJane said:@Sarahspangles those gloves look lovely. When you finish them, please let us know the amounts of yarn that you actually used. (Since a noticible proportion of my stash consists of the leftovers from knitting socks, I’m tempted to try to use them up that way.)
For a medium, they took 55g of 4 ply, 14wpi, on 3mm needles. 40g in the main colour and 15g in the highlight. You’d probably use less as I added an inch length to the wrist, and I’m quite loose with my floats. Particularly in the transition between dpns, which I need to work on.
Do you get those sorts of quantities left over from socks?
I’m considering a hat and cowl using this pattern for borders, and fair isle style patterns in the same colour on a lighter background. I borrowed a book on fair isle which means I finally understand yarn dominance.Fashion on the Ration

Pip, one of my great treasures is the paper wrapper from a large bar of Dairy Milk (back in the olden days of paper wrappers over purple foil): on the inside, blank white, side my Dad sketched out all the positions in cricket to teach me about themPipneyJane said:

I have no idea quite why, but that piece of paper just somehow really sums up the best of my Dad for me

Thanks for the details @Sarahspangles. If the socks were for me, I’d have approximately 36g of yarn left; for DH, probably less than 20g. (I have only ever weighed one skein of leftovers from a pair of socks for him and that was 13g.)
I love that story, @Laura_Elsewhere. When you tell him, please mention to him that I was told multiple stories about Sir Donald Bradman when I was small, not by my dad, but by my two cricket mad school teachers. If it was a sunny afternoon, both Mr Daniels and Mr Reid thought nothing better than to take their classes out to play cricket for the afternoon. (Mr Daniels taught me in 3rd grade; Mr Reid in 5th.)Laura_Elsewhere said:

Did you manage to buy the belt, too, @diminua? That blouse sounds lovely.
I forgot to mention that I bought a scarf in one of the Whitstable charity shops for £3.50, since the back of my neck was getting very cold. It’s a cotton-rayon blend. No idea what brand.
