Good idea about the book, @alicef - I was very excited to see that Patrick and Esmè are doing a talk at a theatre in Cambridge, which is not far from me.  However the tickets are £42   I'm sure it would be good, but I will not be going.  I might see if I can get the book through the library though.  

@PollyWollyDoodle I'm near Cambridge too and did the same as you, got excited about Patrick and Esme coming then got put off by the price!

I’d pay that for theatre tickets but it seems a lot just to hear them talk. As @alicef wisely said, that represents a lot of yarn/fabric/craft supplies!

This week I’ve mended a bra and I’m just sorting out some pulls on a merino sweater. We’ve managed to book a holiday and I’m wondering if it would be mad to take a small knitting project!

@Sarahspangles not mad at all.  I always have a small knitting project in my handbag, usually a sock.  When we go on holiday, I’ll pack an extra ball or two, so that when one pair finishes, I have another I can start.

@PipneyJane - you look utterly brilliant, really nice outfit from head to toe- plus you look lovely and healthy, and long may that last!!

@Sarahspangles - you mean there are people who don't take needlework on holiday?!?! I mean, yes, obviously folk who are not needleworkers, but surely everyone who does knitting or crochet or sewing would take something with them to work on???

I take my sketching things, but it never occurred to me to knit! I couldn’t imagine working on a sweater on a sun lounger, and the weight would be a consideration.

Has anyone flown recently with needles in hand luggage? And knitted on a plane? Some fine bamboo DPNs would fit in my pencil case. My next project is gloves and hat in fingering yarn.

I wouldn't take a large project to somewhere hot, no! But socks or gloves, ideal for just lazily knitting... or a lacy scarf, all kinds of smaller, lighter things. 

There's lots of debate about knitting needles and flying- in theory, I believe now all airlines no longer list them as forbidden- BUT people do still have anecdotes about being stopped within the last year, on small and large airlines... 
I wouldn't risk it myself- you just never know, and I'd hate to have anything confiscated! 

I rarely fly, but last time I did in 2015 was when I taught myself to crochet They seem fine with crochet hooks...

@Sarahspangles, I've not flown all that recently but usually the airlines have details on their websites of what type of needles, if any, are permitted. Some might be allowed in the hold, if not in hand luggage. Bamboo are more likely to be permitted than metal, but going into Australia some years ago, I had to declare mine as they are plant material and Australia is very strict on limiting anything that might affect the biology.
