I love that hat, and little shops that have been there forever.

Earlier this week I tipped out my sewing box and checked for gaps in supplies - my daughter made some serious inroads in her teenage years. I did an online order from a haberdashery including some ‘old stock’ thread that turns out to be from a Coats mill I used to live near. No idea why cotton yarn was spun in a woollen area.

Both my well-dressed grandmothers sewed for a living. One started as an invisible mender and later made shirts for Double2 Shirts. I’m sure some of the thread in my box came from there, via her work box. The other had a sewing corner at home and made her own clothes, and some of ours as children but also wedding dresses for brides in her village, and the costumes for amateur operatic societies. So hers was more of a hobby business.

This week I’ve mended a bra and I’m just sorting out some pulls on a merino sweater. We’ve managed to book a holiday and I’m wondering if it would be mad to take a small knitting project!

@Sarahspangles, it's the first thing I think about when I'm packing for a holiday.... what small project can I take with me?
