NST January 2024: This is Sparta!

Up until 2:30 last night cleaning kitchen - I knew nobody else would and I would wake up to a kitchen disaster and didn't want that. Then after I went to bed, more fireworks went off. Pretty sure it is from the house behind us diagonally. They do it all of the time, even though it is illegal here to set off fireworks except one day a year in July.
Up at normal time though to feed the cats. Called new dog owner (of husky Bella) and he says doggy is happy and part of the family. So happy she has a good home finally.
Didn't get everything done today yet. But early evening here, so will get in more of the computer work. Watched American football all day - one of our friend's sons was playing in one of the games and his team won 45-6.
Need to rearrange my to-do list for the next few days so I can conquer a few frogs and see about starting our new schedule at the FamilySearch Center.
Grateful for a new year and new chance to start over, that dog has a good home, that relatives are basically well, and that I can rearrange things as needed. When I finally make it to bed tonight, I hope to be grateful for enough sleep as not having a roommate make his meatloaf dinner tonight using a ton of pots and other dishes. One night this month is enough.
Hope everyone is staying warm and dry and having a good start to the year. Glad to hear @apple_muncher was able to save the situation and put out the tea towel fire. That was definitely scary. Hope your nerves have recovered.14 -
KajiKita said:@ldee2111, I am a serious procrastinator too. For me it’s about perfectionism - it’s like I get scared to start as what I do won’t be good enough.I find that treating things as ‘drafts for others to chew on’ helps as I am helping to *start* a process, not completing it all on my own. I also am trying to live by the saying ‘sometimes a job is worth doing badly’ I.e. just get it done, even if it’s not perfect - cleaning for example, that’s better done a bit than not at all. Does that help?

Like a few others on here - procrastination is something I need to battle (he says writing his entry on at 23:00 lol). Also a bit of a perfectionist - and probably a bit lazy and hedonistic. I always take the easy route and put pleasure before tasks I should be tackling. Bad abundant!!! So something to chip away at.
Today I am grateful for:
1) Catching up with a good friend
2) Family time with parents and my sister's family
3) The staff at my Mum's home who are just incredible
Today = NSD number 1
I will have a ponder over the 'This Is Sparta' challenge over the next few days and see what I come up with.
Hugs for now - and once again - bright, happy, prosperous blessings to us all ⭐NST 🐢 & MF before 40 🤸13 -
Glad you put out the fire on time, Apple.
NSD No 2.
Christmas tree taken down and put away for another year. Between Himself and I we've managed to put all the Christmas presents into the spare room but where we're going to find a permanent home for them goodness only knows. A bag of broken/useless items in the bin (Himself doesn't know about those, of course!). And a few other little jobs done.
Pork chops for dinner with roasted vegetables. Himself has been warned in no uncertain terms that we just cannot buy anything else. Food or otherwise. We just don't have the room.
First hospital appointment of the year tomorrow morning. I really, really hope this is not going to be the beginning of another saga.
Have a good evening. xxxHave adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.12 -
Happy new year all, started the new year early with getting sick while having visitors, a bit embarrassing - but a virus, not drink! So only just resurfaced today in time to go to a slightly futile staff training day at work.
- Today I am grateful for having had a mostly lovely holiday break w both boys and seeing a bit of friends.
- For having a job to go back to even if my motivation is medium
- And for having lots and lots of things to do in the immediate and near future.

Today has been very very spendy, as the builder has submitted loads of invoices. So paid those. Hopefully they will show up soon and finish the job - it is all of one day's work left for goodness sake! They are due on Thursday, and then one day next week to fit a window (sigh!). Wish they would just get on with it!Met a couple of my neighbours on the street this morning whilst doing the dustbin shuffle - they got a letter from their landlord the week before Christmas to say he is selling their house and they need to be out by 31st January. The sign has not even gone up! Totally out of the blue. Feel awful for all 5 of them.Gratitudes : Apple's fire extinguishing prowess (she didn't start the fire - do be do be do), the end of builders being in sight (for this round of jobs anyway), for Agatha Christie remakes on EyePlayer - I seem to have missed them all, and they really are jolly good. And for the Premium Bond notifications tomorrow for all of us PB watchers.

Today I am grateful for no more arson attempts by dh, for pip having fun with a friend this afternoon, for a dr taking Pip seriously even though the practice ain't allowed to prescribe what we want to under 18s so they've had to email CAMHS (good luck with that, eh!?), for the WSM final (even though I watched it semi-live on utube in the summer, so I knew who won), for not going back to school next week 🤣🤣🤣

I’d five things on my to do list today and I managed four of them: ironed a shirt and suit for OH, cleared two piles of washing, vacuumed our spare room, and taught DS how to play chess. I didn’t get round to cleaning the bathroom. Happy with what I got ticked off though.I also made dinner, cleaned the kitchen, checked my work email ahead of returning tomorrow, and hosted a wee visit from Dad. The busyness meant I’d no time to think about buying anything so NSD 2 in my pocket.Grateful today for finally getting round to teaching DS to play chess, for Dad coming over for a visit, for Mum taking DS to the pool for an hour, for MIL sending me her cinema codes (she gets free tickets from the big blue every month), and for OH and DS enjoying the curry I made for dinner.

Good evening 🌖
I had to go back and re-read apple's fire-antics. Disaster averted well done!!! I'm paranoid. I won't leave my toothbrush on charge if I go out the house haha!!! Anyway - it is an excuse to get DH to buy you some snazzy new tea towels haha.
Pleasant day with a friend - but was totally drained after 3 hours. I think having company two days running and a late night to bed, has done me no favours. Then a day of rain and gloom, skipping of breakfast as was up late - and then ravenous when friend left - all led to a day of carbs and no gym!!! But at least I can reflect and identify the trigger points... Solution: Early to bed; eat breakfast; limit social contact (have a day off in between).
Today I am grateful for:
1) Learning how bad behaviours can sabotage motivation and intention
2) An evening alone
3) Learning new things
Today was a spend day
NSD total = 1
Paid a little extra of a credit card (only £1.17 but every bit counts) on top of monthly payment.
