222 days left for me. If I exclude bank holidays, non working days and annual leave it is 132 working days.

I don’t post much but have followed this site for a while now
i pulled the plug 3 weeks ago now and whilst still at the “I am on holiday mode” ( I know it is very early days still) it has been a great relief not to have to drag myself through another work week ( the last few months of work were tedious in the extreme)
I am not looking at my retirement pot so often stressing about money I think things will work out okay and I’m actually starting to think about what I want to do next. I have some travel plans lined up and I’m just waiting for my other half to finish so that we can start, travelling properly.
It takes a bit of time I think to wind down but certainly it has put a new perspective on things. There is so much going on outside the world of work To be explored and discovered. Simple things give simple pleasures. Being the true master of your own time is I think the true reward here and worth the slog we all put in to get to be able to retire
best of luck To those still at the coal face and struggling. You will get there and the wait and slog is worth it in the end13 -

Not that I'm counting!
973 days to my target retirement date, 30-4-27
458 work days, through part time, 4 day week, holidays, bank holidays, holiday buy
Works out at basically I'll be working less than 50% of the days until my target exit day.
Doesn't seem that bad when put into that context,

I’ve snipped this part….I think it is HUGELY important.Smudgeismydog said:(snip)Perhaps, just as important as the money side of things, retirement has meant time to get everything organised for the move (it’s been stressful), time to support my son with his results and search for an apprenticeship. Time to help my daughter learn to drive and take her to University open days, as well as helping both mum’s with jobs around their respective houses.
(snip)
Time. The one thing we all have in ever-reducing amounts….
Make plans, do stuff!
Since I stepped away, our offspring have moved between 5 flats and 3 cities….having the flexibility to just say “sure, we can be down next week to help” has been brilliant 💪
Fresh (sic) back from supervising a Gold DofE team in mid-Wales - again, no work stresses to get in the way, just a fabulous week.
Also happened upon a bunch of cyclists who had happened to converge on Llanwrtwd Wells at similar times during an utterly crazy challenge, the 2000km GBDuro event, from Lands End to Cape Wrath….unsupported, mostly off-road: crazy….& yet we have been following ‘our’ riders all week!
After some rest today, up to stay with some friends in Yorkshire….walks, a County Show, a beer festival….it’s tough!
Taking that Bold Leap Into Retirement is the best thing you can do 😎Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!10 -
Smudgeismydog said:Hi @Sunsh1ne54, thanks for dropping by.
Everything is going to plan thanks. My partner and I went on a tour of a beaver enclosure this morning, which we found to be really interesting. We are also volunteering for dry stone walling on Thursday this week. We have a trip to New York with the kids in 2 weeks, which we are all excited about, then hoping to move house mid August.
The new house needs some tlc, so loads of projects both indoors and outdoors to keep us busy, along with exploring the area on foot, bikes as well as kayaking and paddle boarding along the river. We both want to volunteer locally, but will carefully select what put our hands up for when we are ready.
I’ve moved some money from my SS ISA to cash ready for the house move, but other than that nothing much to report on the finances front. Since finishing work we have both lost track of days a little, as it’s felt like we’ve have a really long weekend, but no Sunday evening feeling of dread, and our sleep patterns have definitely improved.4 -
Took a 60% pay cut 4 years ago leaving a long hours managerial position. Now working PT in a totally different field of work earning circa £22k pa. Mortgage paid off at time of leaving managerial position.
im 58 and have a number of options. Plan is to stay in current job but also to access my DB next May (£21k pa with circa 3.5 indexation ) and continue to work till im 62 and then retire.
i have a SIPP of about £175k and savings of only 2k.
No plan to touch SIPP till 62 which i estimate should be about £210k. Savings im looking to build to £50k in the next 4 years.
As im in Scotland i want to sit under the higher rate tax band (43k or thereabouts!).
Have checked SP forecast and ive met the requirement for full SP at 67 last year.
This will give me some more disposable income from next May which will be welcome and supporting building my cash reserves. Im looking at (net) £36k pa pretty much from next year onwards. Any thoughts on accessing any of the above differently?
i enjoy my PT role but 62 is time to retire.4 -
60 in March, there are a few organisational changes going on at work, most probably will leave late June early July if I don't get the push before. Not been there long so no big redundancy payout. It's just my opinion and not advice.0

Well, well, well, I am a little surprised by the foresight shown by my employer, I am now interviewing for my replacement.
