Welcome to the club, and take your time to settle into your new routine. 

I love your ‘planning to do something unplanned’. I really appreciate being able to be so spontaneous, we might hear about an event locally, or look at the weather forecast and choose a day out, or a friend might message suggesting a catch up, and we can do what we please.

Please let us know how you settle into retirement, we would love to hear how you are getting on.

Totally.  Tomorrow's a great example.  Forecast is good so I was planning a longer bike ride then a friend who's recovering from an op suggested an easy cafe ride.  I can now do both!

I guess you can add me to the ever growing list of retirees.  I turned 56 yesterday and handed in my notice with a view to retiring before the end of September.  I've spent several months going over various figures/spreadsheets and also spent the same amount of time reading posts on this very helpful forum!

Just waiting to hear from HR as to when my actual leave date is.

Looks like I'm stuck with my nickname as I don't appear to be able to change it in my profile!! Oh well, I shall remain as disgruntled1234 forever more

Just to provide an update.  9th Sep will be my last working day.  Using 12 unused holiday days to bring it forward from 30th Sep (I already dropped to 4 days a week from the beginning of April so don't work Fridays).  Woo hoo.  Excited and nervous in equal measures!!
