They want forever more and more from less and less people and resources. I'm thinking of getting my holidays out of the way in June and another in September and then handing in my notice when I return in September. They'll probably patio leave me until xmas on full pay. I was going to hang on until next March but I'm not sure I can stand it that long now. I feel sorry for younger people in the workplace.
Very much looking forward to joining you folks who have done it2 -

Back this week from Indonesia (all very nice), but an offshore colleague I previously worked with for many years was over in the UK, so arranged to meet up with them (and a few others). It was really good to actually meet my offshore colleague face-to-face, and a really nice evening catching up with my old team / colleagues.
There was lots of work discussions and I found myself wanting to inject myself back into some of it, but the peace and serenity of not being in the cauldron anymore felt sooooo good 🥰Personal Responsibility - Sad but True

I’m not sure it’s the same for younger people in the workforce, we are just longer in the tooth and can see through the BS.

Afternoon
Have enjoyed reading the thread and hope everyone is well.
Starting to plan my departure from work aiming for June 2026 - as I get my bonus in April and a share save matures in Feb.
I moved roles a few a years ago, partly to get more money and also to start the process of letting go - I did the old role for 15 years and was considered the go to guy - still get involved but starting to let go.
Mrs Fish stopped working at the beginning of May - I struggle to call it retirement as she is younger than me.
I work for a large company that seems to be constantly restructuring, so redundancy might happen but I don't plan to stay on longer than needed just in case I get a package- life is too short.
As a large company the bureaucracy seems to get worse week on week, processes constantly changing with no one able to support.
My intention is to stop once my DC pot reaches a value, hopefully June 2026 - we both have 2 DBs each we can take early so intend to use the 4 DBs plus some from DC to fund us until SP kicks in. Only possible fly in the ointment is my health cover - Mrs Fish will likely need a new hip, so would like to use the cover if possible, however Plan B would be to look to drop down to a lesser role to maintain the benefit but reduce the BS.
Started the process of understanding how to take the DB pensions early - not wanting to take them too early to avoid paying extra tax ! - how did others get everything aligned ?
Spoke to my works pension provider - they mentioned I could not drawdown from it so I will need to transfer to a SIPP - but this could take a few months as seemingly they still do everything by paper ! - they did say I could transfer some of it out pre retirement but would be subject to a fee - so next stage is to investigate options for a SIPP and look to get one in place.
Have odd moments when I panic if my sums are correct and should I work longer, but as others have said, always the option of part time work.2
