Another vote for the purple stout from Lil's - although it is excellent for drinking purposes if I recall correctly it's a coffee stout and while the coffee flavour isn't THAT distinct, I'm not sure how well it would work for cooking purposes.
We too have chaos with temporary traffic lights locally at the moment - just makes getting anywhere such a faff.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
Balance as at 01/09/23 = £115,000.00 Balance as at 31/12/23 = £112,000.00

Our local problem is that they are not even bothering with the traffic lights.

@Greying_Pilgrim I was thinking of doing a veggie haggis, if you find a good recipe, please let me know3

Ours is they aren't too sure on the whole dates thing. There was a sign up for ages saying the hill i live on would be closed on the 3rd. The 3rd came and went with no closure and then there planned powercut for the 13th for tree cutting and it dawned on me the 3rd meant the 13th. Hilarious!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!3 -
This is a vegan haggis recipe that I haven't made, but did try years ago at Henderson's in Edinburgh

Hey FrugalHedonist - the recipe that i have is yonks old, and unfortunately I haven't noted the source of the original recipe. I had always thought that I noted it down......... mmmmm, I'm thinking maybe 2008, 2009 - maybe 10 or 11, it's a long time ago anyway. Plus I had always thought that I got it from an American site (yeah, the irony!), but that might be a 'recollections may vary' scenario. But I know that my recipe for veggie scrapple, and several other dishes were sourced from American bloggers. I've checked greenbee's link, and it's not that one, and I do have a folded up sheet of paper in my recipe book, which is a recipe for a vegan haggis from the 'Veganuary' website. But I don't know when I printed that off, as the recipe doesn't seem to appear on the website now (not that I could find, anyway) - and it's not the recipe I use.
The closest recipe that I could find - and if it was the source of the recipe I have, I did a bit of substituting - is the Vegetarian Society Veggie Haggis recipe. I think, if that is the source, I basically simplified it (my MO) and used what I had available/plenty of. And instead of red kidney beans, my haggis uses black eyed beans. This may just be down to preference, maybe I had a ton of them to use up 🤭 or maybe I just felt we had sufficient recipes using RKB's - as they have always been amongst the least costly beans to buy, particularly canned. One thing I did find on the Veganuary site was a recipe for a 'spiced stuffing muffin', and that minded me of the way that i present my veggie haggis, as I cook it in little pudding moulds - but that's jus me being 'fancy', Ay.
Not quite the answer you were looking for, but my 'version' of the veggie haggis recipe is what we'll be having for Burns night (hopefully - fingers crossed). And yes, I did get MUCH better at linking to sources for recipes, the more recipes I garnered from library books and the internet. My problem now is much more about when wanting to pass the recipes on, the books are out of print and the blog/websites long since shut down!

Good evening MFW'rs
Thank you for inspiring me to try a bit harder with making summat for us tea. I decided to make the beetroot dhal off the Veganuary site, as I had a vac pack of beetroot and a tin of coconut milk in the cupboard, and I decided to make the 'other' swede recipe that I'd noted down - after seeing chef Anna Tobias on an episode of Gok Wan's curry programme on f00d n3tw0rk, but then found listed online. Recipes are; Beetroot Dhal and Swede Massaman curry. Served with boiled basmati rice. There was a small portion of dhal left and a small portion of the swede curry. Surprisingly, LG cleared their plate. They were a bit sniffy about the beetroot dhal, but were happier that the beetroot was pureed, so there were no lumps. I found the dhal a bit sweet from the coconut, but didn't put as much in as the recipe called for. I did also miss that there was supposed to be potato in the swede curry, but no matter, as I just eye balled the carrot and swede amounts anyway - we didn't miss the potato. I did forget to remove the star anise from the swede curry, but at least it turned up in my portion, so no harm done. It really is a 'fragrant' curry, very nice. I hadn't got any galangal, so used normal ginger and some lemon grass, chopped up very finely, instead.
LG had another productive and enjoyable day at school today, so I'm wholly appreciative of that.
Right, I want to get some knitting in. I'm trying to do an 8 row pattern repeat each time I pick it up to try to speed up completion.
Ta for popping in. Appreciated.

Good Morning MFW'rs
Shopping day today. List to finish off.
LG is doing homework 😬 DH is patiently supervising.
Snap to prep and uniform to corral.
Knitting went haywire last night as I noticed I had done a 3-stitch repeat wrong, all across the row, 4 rows down....🙄 Spent as much time correcting (if not more) than I did knitting. Not a fun leisure activity. However, I managed to fix it and finish off, so progress, of sorts, I guess.
Right, better shove orf. Do a bit more.

Sorry to read knitting had gone wrong but I’m hugely impressed with anyone who knits. Many years ago I tried to knit a jumper whilst working nights with a lovely group of people. By the time I finished the present for my Mum they wanted to write their names on the gift tag as they had knitted so much of it. 😂😂8
