@Brie - thank you for posting that info 😁 that's what I normally do with garlic but I was doing a dish that I wanted garlic slices - a lot of them!😳 - so couldn't use that method 🤦♀️ I ended up just doing a lot of peeling in a time consuming fashion!! 🙄😂
@Teaparty_mum - It's massively soggy here too! I'm giving my walk and gardening a miss today as I don't own a snorkel and flippers!! 😳😂 I hope your reiki session goes well 🤞
Yesterday I ended up spending more time away from the house than I intended so got nothing done - it's not a problem though, I'll get it sorted over the next few days. Tomorrow and Sunday look like they may be dry days so I can get a bit of weeding done in short bursts and I may do the freezers today - at the very least I'll get the small one done!
Other than that, today I'm mainly just getting the house sorted before I pick up my grandbaby and the chaos begins! 😁 I have polenta left over from yesterday so will make some type of tomato based sauce to go with that - shouldn't take long though and I'll pop some courgettes in if the ones in the garden are ready.
Last night I ended up doing tofu with lemon and chimichurri spice; steamed beetroot; polenta made with cashew and almond cream, lemon, garlic and basil; rocket and black grape salad with balsamic dressing; roasted tomatoes with garlic and basil. All very lovely!! 😋
Anyway, I need some chamomile tea before I make a start - have a fab slow day!! 🐌 😁DNF: £708.92/£1000

Hi chums I've had a bit of a month of it in September, first off, had one tooth out on the bottom which had been giving me gyp I was told by my oncologist a several years ago that as I aged I would find my gums shrinking slightly because of the treatment I had been given (chemo and radio therapy etc) which meant a few gnashers may loosen .
Well obviously I am ageing (sound like a bottle of wine or a piece of cheese) and one not only got a bit looser I ended up with an infection under it which was really painful so a dose of antibiotics first then a dentist appointment to get it removed along with £150 from my bank account (no NHS dentist on the Isle of Wight)
Then I just started feeling a bit better, and I had a small cut on my right arm, which unfortunately is lymphatic so again another infection and a trip to the Drs to get it dressed as it leaks fluid non stop until it heals so a week of that and lots of dressings just got over that....
Then again another gum infection so another trip to the dentist this week to have the remaining root where the tooth had been removed
I used to have a crown there, and last year it cracked and my NHS dentist on the mainland said I won't bother taking the root out I'll just file it down and stitch over it ! !not nice but he did it anyway)
My new dentist said no he would have to dig the root out, so on Tuesday morning off to the dentist once more and after cutting into my gum and digging out the remaining root ( felt like he was taking a tree stump out ) he then stitched over it again and I came home with a very sore mouth full of stitches and again another chunk removed from my bank account
I woke on Wednesday to a streaming cold, which I've had ever since and will be really glad when September has gone. I usually get around one cold a year but as I have a very low auto immune system when I get one its not nice and by today I was actually spending most of it in bed with a banging head ache and a nose that was running like the Thames. I feel like I'm falling to bits,Oh the joys of growing old
So feeling a bit fed up and sorry for myself at the moment I'm hoping that as normally its said things come in three this is the last of the three. I'm definitely not a patient patient and hate feeling poorly.
Topping it off this morning our builder decided to turn up, luckily my son-in-law is sorting them out as he is still at home for awhile ,but I ended up removing my hearing aids as their drills were not helping my poor banging head.
But at least the new piping was laid through the hall for the new downstairs toilet and shower room. They will be back on Monday and by then I'm hoping I shall feel a bit better.
On the upside, by late afternoon the awful wet and windy rain had stopped and the sun came out.
The surgery rang to say my cardiac review was next week so fingers crossed my cold will have dried up, even the receptionist said 'gosh you do sound very croaky'bless her
They are so nice at the new surgery and very much on the ball, and as I only moved here in July they comb through your records and make sure all your medication is up to date along with injections etc. I had forgotten to make a booking for my cardiac review which I have every 6 months, and because of moving it had slipped my mind.
I'm hoping next week as its a new month will be an improvement on this month

@London_1 - that sounds like a very tough month health wise! I hope everything improves and you have a lovely October.Going with the flow is part of slow living so I actually ploughed through all the laundry yesterday as it was a fantastic drying day. Sewing in between trips out to the washing line. I love seeing washing blowing on the line! The apples are looking just right now and need picking. I enjoy that but not all the peeling and chopping- smells wonderful though. With all the green tomatoes that I have I am wondering about making some chutney.Happy slow Saturday to everyone. It’s gorgeously sunny but chilly here so I hope you all have some sunshine too.4

A potter round our local TKMaxx red stickered items produced a pack of three pairs of ladies’ cotton and rubber gardening gloves for £4, and a litre bottle of almond French liquid soap for £5.
I enjoyed looking at the Halloween displays and the first Christmas themed items, lots of pretty things, but totally unnecessary stuff.
DH has gone out early to the football match. He gets a free season ticket, free parking, and his uniform shirt and waterproof jacket, because he is a volunteer on the Welcome Team.
I shopped around for the best price for our A5 day to a page economy diaries for 2025, and they have arrived. It is therapeutic to get my fountain pen out and record the day, the meals, books read, the post, the weather and what I did, even if it was just drying the washing in the garden, walking the dog, knitting, and completing The Times Polygon.
I chose a pretty calendar at the garden centre when we went for our members’ free hot drinks last week. It has plenty of space under the picture to write in our appointments and the birthdays. It is hanging behind this year’s so it can’t get lost. I shalI fill in the birthdays in red, adding a year. Next year I will post the birthday cards at the start of each month because the days and weeks are going by so quickly, it is easy to miss one. Still, they may well assume it was delayed in the post and not through my forgetfulness.5 -

Sounds as if your September has been spent doing the opposite- a sad chapter of events so hope the new month bring a 'new & improved' you!
take care
I assume for an NHS dentist you could register on the mainland & get the ferry over but I suspect that would not save any money with the cost of travel etc.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

@London_1 - not the nicest of months for you!! 😔 I hope it is a better one in October! 🤞
@Moorviews - it's all about being in the moment and you definitely did that! 😁 Fried green tomatoes are meant to be nice - I haven't had them for years so can't remember but I'll be trying them again if the few tomatoes I have stay green as I have a vast amount of chutney already!
@Nelliegrace - well done on sourcing your diaries and calendar for next year! I bought myself the charles dowding sowing/planting calendar for next year (very expensive but I will be able to use the information for years to come so worthwhile for me). I'm definitely going to be recording more information than previously - especially the days weather as that will help me to understand more about my veg growing successes and failures! I totally agree about the time going quickly - I'm finding it difficult to believe that it's almost October already - but I think that some of that is that the weather has made it feel like we've been in the same season for most of the year! 🙄🤦♀️
@Katiehound - maturing and improving are definitely how aging works in my opinion!! 😉😂
Friday we ended up having pizza for dinner the weather was horrendous so there was no way I was walking into dantes inferno for a couple of courgettes!! 😳😂 Yesterday we had the remains of the polenta with butter beans in a tomato and herb sauce.
Today I'm making a Moroccan lemon and potato soup and I harvested the courgettes yesterday so will have those stuffed tomorrow and serve with the remaining potatoes from the soup.
We had a lovely day yesterday, we went to the toy shop, went out for lunch, fed the ducks, painted and played with trains. We also did some planting as my grandbaby decided he wanted some flowers.
Today will be a quiet day playing - I'm coming down with a cold (I'm pretty impressed that it's taken me so long to catch it as both my grandbabies have one as do most of the people I've spent time with recently so I've done pretty well!! 🙌) so don't feel like doing too much.
I've got a busy week ahead of me but I'm making sure that I don't neglect my self-care - I'll be getting my walks, exercise, meditation and yoga nidra in every day regardless of what else I am doing. I know that prioritising those things is much more important than I have previously thought after letting them slip a bit - I feel so much better when they are non-negotiables!
Have a fab slow Sunday!! 🐌 😁

Nelliegrace - I usually leave getting calendars and diaries too late to have much choice. It’s a nice idea to start looking for something now though. Thank you for mentioning it.Leftatthetrafficlights- Thank you, I have never tried fried green tomatoes but that’s a great idea! I have remembered that I could make a green tomato salsa too for going into wraps or tacos. I feel a black bean chilli will be on the menu this week!5

@Moorviews - I do love a black bean chilli!! 😋
I've had a very quiet morning reading, writing and listening to music 😍 I've had a lovely exfoliating shower and done a yoga nidra practice so I'm feeling very chilled! 😁
I've got a lot to do today but I'm doing everything in stages rather than ploughing through it. I've stripped the bed and put the bedding on to wash, I'm going to put the laundry away, clean the bathroom then our bedroom before I do a 15 minute meditation practice. Then I'll do the landing and stairs before I start on the yoga and living rooms. Next will be a chamomile tea and a 15 minute stretch before I clean the kitchen and utility rooms. That should take me to around 3.30pm I think. I'll take a half hour out to do a menu plan based on what we have in the house and garden while the kitchen floor dries then I'll start cooking at 4pm.
I didn't make the soup yesterday so I'm making that today - I need to make sure that I get the stuff into the bread machine in time to produce a loaf to go with it!
Weather here is horrendous today - I've decided against the gardening and walk today as I've got enough to do without having to shower 3 times today! 😂 it should improve a bit tomorrow so I'll hopefully get out then - I'll dig out my wellies if I need to!
Right, I'm off to get a few bits done - have a fab slow day! 🐌😁DNF: £708.92/£1000

I have library books due back this week, the last of the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. I shall make time to potter round the town library and I have a large jigsaw to donate. If the rain holds off it is just a short walk to the charity shops.

I’m not getting the hang of slow living because my body is saying “let’s have a chilled day” but my mind is like “no come on let’s do this” and my mind always wins 😂 but at least the house is clean, my steps have increased and the dog has been walked.Trying to change my life and will:money:8
