Thanks guys for the advice. We did used to have a baby gate, actually three I think, when our two rescue dogs were pups and it did work.

Luckily, it has cooled down a lot now. I opened the front door and back door for a while earlier while we were watching the football to let air circulate.

We have been to the local theatre this afternoon to see a production of Shakespeare in Love. I like the matinées, it is a lovely way to spend an afternoon, with no worry about getting home late at night.
It was a couple of hours, sitting comfortably, enjoying the atmosphere and the play, with no distractions or adverts.
It is a slow pleasure because of the many weeks which so many skilled people have been put into the preparation for this event.

I love the amateur productions as much as the professional ones, the youth theatre group, the local operatic society, the high school musical, and the local choir. The play, a comedy, in which the cast got in such a tangle, stuck in a loop, so that the prompter couldn’t help, and they had to get the script, was the most wonderful evening, we were crying with laughter, they were so wonderful, and got to the end to huge applause.

A volunteer at the town theatre got us free and cheap tickets to all of the productions when DH was having radiotherapy. We went to anything, and enjoyed it all, happy memories in a difficult time.

It always makes laugh how relaxed hedgehogs are about CRASHING about in the undergrowth. They are not subtle at all. But i guess you don’t have to worry too much about being quiet to avoid unwanted attention if you are covered in spines! 😊❤️

So glad that you are having a lovely time with Grandbaby 😊 May the trains today be fun 🚂

  • @Nelliegrace - that sounds like a lovely afternoon! 😁 I much prefer afternoon events than evening ones these days - going out to lunch as opposed to dinner; meeting with friends for daytime drinks rather than a night out etc. I find it difficult to hold/follow conversations in loud environments now so perhaps that's one of the reasons 🤔 I hope all is well with your dh now - what a lovely thing for the town theatre volunteer to do!

@KajiKita - we've only recently had hedgehog visitors to our garden despite living here almost 25 years, so their behaviours are a new experience for me 😁 I didn't realise how fast they can move either!! 😳😂 The trains were great fun thank you - we also made volcanoes and did some painting 😍😁

My grandbaby has gone home now and the house feels very quiet again - I've tidied up and put the first load of laundry on plus I've prepared dinner so I've got nothing else to do today other than have a little snooze 😁

I'm planning on an early night tonight - dh will be watching both footie matches so I'll have a shower and do a yoga nidra practice when the second match is playing.

It's a busy day tomorrow - I'll be starting the day with a walk then I've lots of monthly house jobs to get done; looking at the weather forecast for the week I think I'll take the opportunity to do a deep clean of a room each day - I think I'll join the flylady thread tomorrow to help me stay focused 😁

I've done a basic menu plan for the week - I'll need to get some fruit and veg but won't need anything else so I'll probably send dh shopping tomorrow on the way home from work to save fuel (and it gets me out of having to do it!! 🙌😂)

Anyway, I hope you all have a fab slow Sunday!! 😁

  • Very busy day today but lots achieved so I'm happy with that 😁

I started my day with a walk - the birds were very loud and the weather was perfect for it, I really enjoyed it and felt very peaceful.

Once back home I started on the cleaning - the first of the month is always a busy day with it and today was no different! I put some music on and sang my head off through most of it - I'm much more mindful on my day to day cleans but when I've got a massive list (plus having the grandbaby over the weekend) I like to add some energy to it!

In disappointing news, my sourdough starter hasn't survived 😔 I'm not sure why or what happened but decided that I may as well cut my losses and try again tomorrow. I decided to use the failed starter though - it had a lovely sour smell to it so was definitely fermented and I decided to make some pancakes (injera style) for the freezer. They taste amazing and I have lots of rye so once I run out of teff flour (or if the next rye starter decides to do nothing!) I'll be making them again 😁 They'll be lovely with ethiopian lentils and wats 😋

I'm having an early night tonight- I'm really tired and don't think I can cope with any more footie 😂

Have a lovely slow evening 😁

  • I started my day with a walk - the weather was extremely different from yesterday, persistent drizzle which was quite heavy (if you see what I mean 🤔) and quite windy. It was lovely though, it felt very refreshing and it was very quiet - I'm really enjoying the walks and I've started making my smoothie before I leave and taking it with me which means that I can get stuff done as soon as I get home.

I've done my cleaning and I'm going to have a really chilled afternoon just reading and listening to music - dinner is freezer surprise (I think it's a pasta sauce) so I've got nothing else to do other than put a salad together 😁

Have a lovely slow day 😁
