life’s not very slow in Villa Valli though i did go for a ‘mooch’ round town on Friday with my friend, in search of a birthday gift for another friend. Also I finished the baby cardi and made it up, just needs buttons…baby not due yet so plenty of time, and dive started a jumper for me.
Dorset buttons look lovely but appear to need some skill.
I have made tomorrows dessert though…lemon posset. Currently chilling in glasses in the fridge.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

CottagePotager said:Hello. I know it's mid way through the year but may I join in? I've had a tough time lately. My dear beloved mum died last summer and it has really shook me to my core. I feel a different person now.
I've longer for a slow, peaceful life and feel like it's now or never. I'm trying to get back into the things I enjoy such as crochet, gardening and walking.
I'm so sorry to hear you lost your Mum: it's still quite recent and you must feel it hugely. It sounds as though you were very close.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Not a very slow day here, but a very interesting one. Most of the day was a training course with torrential rain outside but a good group of people and very well presented, then we spent the rest of the day with family. Unexpectedly, as well as our oldest and his family, it was all our children with their other halves, so we had a lovely time. Now I need a good night's sleep!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Had a great day today. Lie in followed by lunch out, potter round the shops, afternoon nap and a short run. Finally feeling better after a few days of horrible sickness bug. Sashiko embroidery this evening. Now in bed reading a new book.
Also welcome @cottagepotager5 -
We had a pleasant afternoon at Albrighton strolling round the glorious roses on grass and brick paths, under rose arches and through rose covered pergolas. We paused to admire them, to read the labels, and breathe in the scents.
One of the gardens was like a labyrinth and we followed all of the twists and turns, and there were plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the scenes. The elegant peacock screeched and strutted, trailing his feathers like a regal cape.
The shower of rain sent us into the tea room for a pot of tea with scones. The china tea set was in a rose pattern, a bit posher than our earthenware pot and large, sturdy mugs. We had a pot of boiling water to top up the pot for a second and a third cup, and we sat and nattered, until the pot was dry.
I took my late mother there a few years ago and somehow, from the mental fog, she recognised and named all of her favourite roses, and we found the Zéphirine Drouhin climbing rose she had grown in her garden.10 -
Albrighton sounds idyllic, @Nelliegrace. I remember my parents had a Zéphirine Drouhin: scented roses are so lovely.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

The David Austin Roses catalogue online captures their beauty, and tries to describe the scent. They are best planted in winter, and £10 cheaper as bare rooted plants. DH commented that the visit was free and, even better, someone else did all of the gardening, which is why we bought tea instead of taking our usual flask.4

I've been awol recently due to being away with family and having very poor internet access! I had a lovely time away though and had lots of fun 😊
Unfortunately, upon my return, dh had managed to pick up a nasty tummy bug and decided to share so I've spent the past 36 hours being quite unwell - thankfully I'm improving slightly now but I am going to ease myself back into normality tomorrow as I still feel a bit weak and feeble! 🙄🤦♀️ Today will be a sleeping to recover day...
@Florafauna - welcome back!! Exploding phone battery sounds worrying! 😳 Your house move and retirement seem very close now - very exciting!! 🙌 I'm sorry to hear you've had a sickness bug too - obviously something going round! 🙄
@Brie - from what I've seen your description of chair yoga is pretty accurate 🤔 I've yet to start it due to family visits and being poorly but from Monday I'm going to do it daily 😉 I'm pleased your gardening team managed to get some work done! I hope you managed to resist the fabric buying temptation! 🤞
@beanielou - that's an impressive amount of time to have been doing yoga! I've dipped in and out of it for a number of years and really enjoy it but this year has seemed to be very erratic due to a variety of things - once I've recovered from this tummy bug I really want to make it a daily practice.
@KajiKita - happy rummaging! 😁
@Katiehound - I've never heard of chair plates 🤔 thank you for the info, I'll definitely give it a look! 😁 Interesting info about Dorset buttons! I must admit I'm not a huge fan of roses due to the thorns but some of them do smell beautiful and a thornless one sounds ideal!
@Cherryfudge - I love the idea of drawing up a chart of activities/demands, it must really help with focusing on what is important and adds value to life. I'm impressed that you're doing Dorset buttons - they look complicated but very pretty! I'm glad you had a lovely time with your family 😁
Lots of informative chat about cottage industries etc - no need to worry about 'hijacking' the thread @Katiehound - lots of interesting stuff for people 😁
@Nelliegrace - the bread looks nice! 😋 I've just begun a sourdough starter now that the weather has improved - I tried one over the winter and it just didn't really work due the temperature fluctuations 🙄 I'm hoping that I'll have success with this one then I will be able to make a loaf on Saturday soup days 😉 the garden visit sounds lovely 😁
@CottagePotager - welcome!! 😁 I'm so sorry you've been through such a tough time 😔 losing a loved one is incredibly hard and takes a long time to adjust too. You are very welcome here and will get lots of support on this thread. Big hugs x
@Valli - well done on finishing the baby cardi! 😁 I love lemon flavour anything - lemon posset sounds divine 😋
