I need to lift the ceramic tiles in my kitchen. They are stuck down incredibly well, hammer and chisel won't do it.....what do I need? Rotating hammer drill?

Yes, but you don't use the rotate function whilst lifting tiles as a nice wide SDS chisel bit is needed. And googles/mask, it's a dirty job.gt568 said:I need to lift the ceramic tiles in my kitchen. https://www.screwfix.com/p/armeg-sds-plus-shank-tile-removing-chisel-80mm-x-180mm/89391Too expensive IMO. You can buy cheaper a set of 3 chisels with a flat one included. It's not bent, and, possibly, not that wide, but I don't think it's essential.

I wasn't particularly recommending that one, it was just to show the OP what they looked like.grumbler said:Mutton_Geoff said:gt568 said:I need to lift the ceramic tiles in my kitchen. They are stuck down incredibly well, hammer and chisel won't do it.....what do I need? Rotating hammer drill?

If they are just embarking on a world of DIY then some basic tools inc hammer drill are useful lifelong purchases but for floor tiles, might be better hiring a 240v hammer drill or breaker if the tiles are really tough.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
If they were done the old way using sand/cement the tiles will be really hard to remove.0

I think you’re going to need a power tool of some kind. Might be cheaper to buy something like this and then sell on once you’re finished rather than hire. https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb653sds-5-9kg-electric-sds-plus-drill-230-240v/6846hgt568 said:I'll have to hire the drill/hammer.....I’ve got one and it sounds perfect for your job. I picked up an angled chisel from Lidl for under £10 similar to the one linked to above.0 -
These are really good value and also good for drilling into hard materials.Nobbie1967 said:

Screwfix also do refurbs for around £55.0 -
IMO, these are too heavy and too powerful for tiles. I think this one will do the job - https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb872sds-3-27kg-electric-hammer-drill-240v/310vv (refurb is £40)stuart45 said:

I agree that they are heavy compared to a lot of drills, but the power can be adjusted on them if necessary.grumbler said:

As they are put on with sand/cement, a more powerful drill might be helpful.
I worked on a 30's building once where the labourers had to use a Kango to get them off.
