  • Speaking of getting ready for 2025, can anyone list some of the things they have done for themselves this year to give the rest of us some ideas for our 25? I found it difficult to come up with 24 things I can do for myself. What activities do you do for some of your "challenges"?

I've had a bit of a burst cos I'm off with work for most of December and not sure how many I'll manage. Though long flights so think I'll be OK on 3 more films! I also have a workout specifically for travel and the conference talks / workshops will definitely count as academic submissions. Currently on holibags staying with dd2 in London. Yesterday we went for a city trail and visited a city farm (green place). I will definitely keep some of these - will let you know my thoughts for 2025 soon

@tinkerbelluk and @weenancyinAmerica I do 20 things so this year has been 20 things each 24 times for 2024 and next year will be 20 things 25 times. Next year one thing I'm going to include is a colour-theme so I'll be doing '25 green things'. I love fish but get a bit samey so another will be 25 types of fish (that'll replace this year's 24 types of fruit). I'll keep the litter picks and documentaries - the latter has expanded my tv watching in a good way. I love reading - thinking of changing 'fiction books' for 'children's books' and 'non-fiction books' for 'translations'. Working in a University I don't get to be the audience in lectures enough and have really enjoyed that challenge so I'll keep lectures. I thought about 25 different origami (I know 3!) but now thinking 25 makes cos that can then include a few craft projects that have sat there too long whilst recognising that 25 in a year is 2 weeks each on average so mustn't make challenges too difficult. As you can see I am enjoying considering my 20 challenges - stretching but not stressing!

  • @DundeeDoll doll I think 20 things x a certain amount of times is plenty and I love that you've found joy in getting some of them ticked off this year. I'm really intrigued by what your " Place-named foods" is? Do you mean types of cuisine?

@IrishRose12 - I forgot to mention I did the £2 saving challenge years ago and your comment took me right back. I remember one time, my dad asked me to grab him a paper on the way to see him and I had a £10 note on me, without thinking I handed it over and nearly cried when the woman behind the counter said "Sorry love, I've got no fivers!" Seriously the bl**dy paper cost me just shy of £10

Getting on to 2025, the whole idea always was a fun challenge type thing, going forward for others feel free to join us for 2025 where it could just be 25 things over the year you mean to do and haven't got around to yet etc. Or like me who's insane 25 things 25 times!

As we've always said it's progress not perfection and even if you tick one thing off your list whether you've got a list of 25 or like me 625 things on your list for next year, then it's an achievement as you've done something you probably would never have got around to doing. As for me, I know I'm keeping some of mine, going to pull some in from 23 that have fallen off the radar as well as some new ones, so ideas are needed for sure. I'll give it a bit longer and I'll get the 2025 thread set up

Simply foods named after their place of origin @tinkerbelluk You'll note quite a few cheeses on the list - I have been looking out for a Chelsea bun but no luck so far. And I know Bombay is no longer called Bombay. Can't believe I don't have Dundee marmalade on the list! So perhaps that'll be my 24th

Angus steak mince; Arborio rice; Bakewell Slices; Bombay mix; Brunswick Ham; Brussels pate; Cheddar cheese; Cullen Skink; Dundee cake; Edam cheese; Edinburgh rock; Emmental; Harrogate blue; Jarlsberg; Melton Mowbray porkpies; Old Amsterdam cheese; Parma ham; Pontefract cakes; Red Leicester; Selkirk Bannock; Stilton; Wensleydale; Worcester Sauce

  • I noticed that I hadn’t posted my end of the month November update.  Not the best as I’ve been really poorly so things have been done at a tortoise pace, but now beginning to feel better and hoping to have a good month with December to the finish. A few updates to add on so not all bad.

    1) 24 donations to local animal sanctuary. 5/24  local sanctuary has requested kitten food, have got them 48 sachets and 6 boxes of kitten crunchies donated that were a ridiculously cheap price in Asd@ along with some cat chews.
Another donation of several boxes of kitten crunchies donated in June and after I’ve been shopping in abit  I have another donation that will make
    7/24 +another 4 boxes kitten food=8/24

A big box of cat food ready to drop off, just haven’t had chance- that box now dropped off
    =9/24.
Another two bigs drop offs of food = 11/24
    Current total =12/24

    2) lose 24lbs in weight (def need to do this after finding out my weight yesterday). I would like to think I’ve dropped a couple of pounds after being so ill

    3) 24 jobs in the garden. Really want to attack the garden this year and do some work on it…..plus free exercise 2/24….finally!

    4) 24 ‘me time’ activities. As bestie pointed out recently I never put myself first 5/24

    5) read 24 books I’ve actually started one, but the Olympics is addictive watching. I can only do a few pages at night and then I need to sleep. I reading more and doing less Olympics at the minute. 1/24

    6) save £2400

    7) save £240 on supermarket card for Christmas

    8) declutter 24 items from the house each month

Found my total from the decluttering thread. Update 228 items decluttered from the house this year. Year total aim is 288 so 228/288 + 9 items out= 237/288.Now up to 252. (Having to keep track from my totals on decluttering thread)
    Another 15 items out =262.

COMPLETED ✅ after a CS drop off and a big tip run but I’ve lost track of numbers as on the decluttering thread I’m not far off 500 items out of the house this year

    9) sell 24 items -finally started with this!! 5/24

    10) 24 activities with family/friends 17/24(me and a bestie decided to book a trip away to London, wanted to do it last year but it never happened. Very much looking forward to this). Just recovering from trip away!
Another trip coming up in a couple of weeks.
Trip coming up this week, doing everything I can to make sure I am fit to go but did do some activities before I fell poorly

    11) 240 minutes of volunteering each week 17/52

    12) At least 24 mins of housework a day  Jan✅ Feb✅ March✅ April ✅ May✅June✅July ✅Aug✅Sept✅Oct✅Nov✅

    13) At least 240 minutes of exercise a week 9/52

    14) At least 240 items to favourite charities for fundraising x 2.  110+20=130+28=158+ 20=178+9=187+70 (delivered yesterday 17/3) =257. First lot done ✅

    Tuesday’s donation for a charity fundraiser starts me off with 25 items +17 =42 items + 53 items in June = 95 items +4 delivered directly= 99 items +42 items ready to send=141+ 19 items used for a raffle last night = 160

     200 items dropped off to shoebox organiser + 6 shoeboxes + 8 things given as raffle prizes = 160 +214= 374 items.✅

So far 631 items donated to favourite charities so task completed for the year. Have more to drop off and two shoeboxes to finish so will keep updating until 31st Dec
    COMPLETED

Another 100 items donated and dropped off to charity organiser= 731

    15) Use up 24 candles 1/24

Update 56 bags now donated, now 63 bags, aim is 70
