I noticed this thread back in September and was interested because I was 'guilty' of omitting the 'Closing Date' field back in June:

This surprised me at the time because I usually select the Closing Date from the drop-down calendar and then use this to enter the 'E: dd/mm' at the start of the 'Discussion Title'. After @BootsMullery pointed out the omission I suspected that it was a result of starting a new thread, using 'Save Draft' rather than posting immediately, and then when I went back to the saved thread the Closing Date had been lost and I didn't notice (because I was confident that I would have already done it). I have just checked and this is indeed the case: if I re-open a saved thread from 'My Drafts' the originally selected Closing Date has been set back to 'dd/mm/yyyy', and I imagine that there is no warning when the saved draft thread is eventually posted.
