And I have some good news!

A fix is begin tested, and unless we find any issues, it will be put in place at the end of this month.

When it's in place, if you don't add a Closing Date, you'll get the same kind of warning you would get if you'd forgotten the title or used too few characters...

@MSE_Stephen  Was this actually put in place at the end of March?
    Hi @BootsMullery

I've just checked, and it looks like this fix was delayed for a few weeks.
Current timeline is for it to be added in the week starting 22nd April.

When in place, much like the Title field, it won't let you continue posting until a date is provided.

What has happened to this? Is it going to be fixed at all?
There are still threads being started without Closing Dates and even experienced posters seem to be forgetting to enter a date, more frequently now.

    My apologies!

I thought this had already gone through a long time ago. I've now asked our provider to put it in place ASAP - but that might mean it has to wait until the next update.

Another thought on this is that I, and others, enter competitions based on the end date. So today I will enter competitions that end tomorrow. Without an end date how can you do this?

The ability to sort by end date seems to have disappeared? I don't want to filter by end date. I want to sort the whole board by end date.
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.

    Hi,
This thread, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6556461/e-3-11-win-a-family-ticket-to-legoland-discovery-centre#latest, should have the Closing Date field entered as 03/11/2024.
Obviously, I cannot check what has been entered in this field but it has all the hallmarks of being 00/00/0000, which is what the field has previously defaulted to when the post has been made with no date entered.
Has the "fix" not worked or perhaps gone wrong again?

    It had no closing date.

If no other indication that there's a fault, my guess would be it might have been added from a 'Create' button outside the Comps board. E.g. If you create a thread from homepage, you can choose Comps without selecting a Closing Date:
    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/post/discussion
I'm afraid there isn't much we can do if this is the case.

Thanks for checking it out and putting in the correct date.
If it had been the old problem coming back, the date should have been 00/00/0000 rather than being blank so your answer would seem very likely.
It would have been good if the Closing Date field could have been made prominently visible on the thread listing page, say just under the title. Then we could all see what is in that field and it wouldn't be necessary to post the end date at the start of the title as we do. Perhaps that is something that could be considered some time.

There was a comp posted a couple of days ago that was posted in "Compers Chat" and moved a couple of hours later to the main "Standard Comps" forum. I suspect it was this Legoland thread. Posting in Chat does not require an end date.

I believe that when a thread is moved in that way, it does then show an edited date and time. This one didn't so I don't think it was moved.
I do know that the poster of this Legoland thread, on the same day posted another thread in the wrong place which was then moved by, I think, @Misslayed. I also think that Misslayed added a closing date to that one after moving it.
That other thread was this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6556458/e-15-10-win-diggerland-family-ticket#latest but I don't know where it was originally posted.

Yeah - it's the diggerland thread I half remembered.
