You need to go to applications > system > console and then you should get a picture that looks vaguely like mine but not pink.
and then you can type "su" and press enter. you'll be asked for your password, so type that. that'll turn you into a superuser
then i would have a go at typing mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb and report back what error messages you get. you won't break anything Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

Thanks for the replies so far, the trouble is that most "converts" to Linux tend to be so enthusiastic about it that they automatically get into "tech gear" and therefore lose me after the first couple of sentences..!
Is there a brief intro about the basics, for example how Linux treats files, hot it adds devices/hardware, install applications etc?
Also what is the difference between the different Distributions? Isn't it in the presentation/user interface but actually all the same underneath?0 -
