Can anyone direct me to an easy to learn "Linux for beginners"?
I have the new Eee mini laptop which has a Linux pre installed with a GUI which is pretty easy to use, but I'd like to learn more about how to make the most of it.
Thanks

If you have Ubuntu then then https://www.ubuntuguide.org is a good starting point to help you setup and get programs installed.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0

Linux is amazing!
For digital cameras, you probably have to mount the drive. I know how to do that now. But I only know how to do it in Ubuntu. I open Terminal and type
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb
and then it does it!
But if you're using a different distro you won't have terminal, and you don't have sudo neither.
And I turned my terminal pink look

Lots of forums around, but can get too technical.
You don't say which distro you have.
I'm using PCLOS but struggle with anything more than basics.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Ooooh, I got this book on Xandros out the library. I don't like Xandros coz it went wrong when I tried to install it. Anyway, the book is called " Linux made easy the official guide to Xandros 3 for everyday users" by Grant Rickford and I think it's quite interestingaurora_borealis wrote: »It's xandros

it's not! i only started using linux a while ago to prove my (now)-ex wrong. he's a w@nker, but installing linux was the best thing i ever did.aurora_borealis wrote: »It's like a foreign language

i'll explain it
sudo is what i type to become a superuser. i think that's an ubuntu thing though, and something about su for others.
mount is the command for mounting things. see, nice and easy
/dev/sdb1 is what i want to mount. it's /dev coz it's a device, and /sdb1 coz it's an SCSI disk and it's the 2nd i've got. my harddrive is sda, coz it's the first. if i had a 3rd plugged in, it would be sdc. the last letter changes through the alphabet you see.
and then /mnt/usb is the mount point. you have to create that folder first using mkfs else it won't work.
maybe my explanations aren't helping, but i am a bit drnk

@ Doublespresso
I was never able to find a suitable 'Introduction'. The books in the town library were all hopelessly out of date. And when I used Google there was so much stuff that it blew my mind.
I just concentrated on trying to learn how to do the same tasks in Linux (Ubuntu) that I had previously been doing in Windows.
And I tried not to worry too much about what was going on under the bonnet.
I kept using the Ubuntu forum.
Your OS is a version of Xandros, so maybe check out their forum.
