I remember wondering what the benefit X - £10 was on my deceased parent's account many years ago.

    I had to google it.

Seemed a bit of a trivial sum for the admin involved - but probably easier to leave running than stop.

It's now a fraction of basic state pensions - compared to 50 years ago.

When it was introduced it was almost the level of a week's pension for a couple.

Using Pension Credit amounts, that would be ~£300 today!
  • Hi,
£10 could get you 5 pints in a Wetherspoons,

Thanks!  Actually my bonus was paid into my account on Tuesday - three days ahead of my first proper payment which was paid today, as notified back in August when I made my application.

What I think has happened is that as a new entrant to the payment system and having settled the details well in advance, I didn't go live on it until last week, and as soon as that happened the system worked out that I was due the £10 bonus and paid it straight away.

I'm puzzled that someone else was paid in a different way and I'd have thought the payment would always be a separate one marked XB on your bank statement - however what does it matter so long as we got it! My first payment today was for 18 days so perhaps that has something to do with it.

I also applied for my bus pass and have been making good use of it since it arrived last week. :D
My state pension is paid weekly so the £10 is added to the amount.
If you are paid 4 weekly it's comes as a separate payment
