  • Tap looks (virtually identical) to the Cooke and Lewis Amsel from B and Q which is where I think it was purchased from. This is a photo of the underneath and looks like the one on Amazon to me rated at 7.5-9 litres of it's the silicone one or one from "lowenergie" on Amazon at 6l per minute.

There is a different aerator/ fitting I think came with it too shown in the other photos.

Spare aerator photos above that looks to be differen. Unless that is a pre filter listed on b and Q website with the Cooke and Lewis tap ?of it is that one). Current one fitted below on our kitchen tap.

Below is the tap I think it is with the neoperl flow limiting aerator.

Sorry this is another photo of our tap below haven't posted this well

Can't get to the bottom to write below the aerator fitted on our tap. Sorry.

I could try to find the flow rate out but the pressure upstairs was so high it splashed out of the measuring the flow cup. I could try the pan method but maybe water will fly everywhere.

I did a search about the plinths. The best way to take them off (they should just be clipped on) is with car dent puller suction cups. They attach and have handles and don't damage the steel like a screwdriver or other implement would.

    I will order some actually.

Yes the boiler is a combi.A Back 105HE to be precise. I'm not going to mess with the airing cupboard / boiler stoptap now but last time I checked it turned the water off everywhere besides the toilet. I can't remember if it was only the hot water but I think it may have been the whole lot besides the toilet.

It would make more sense though if it did only do that though I thought I recalled the plumber who installed  said he was relocating the stop tap so I didn't have to do it under the sink.

It was years ago though. Around 2009-9ish I think.

The plumber who came round yesterday said he would be able to fit the washing machine and I have booked delivery for Tuesday 19th. I've asked if he's available/ to confirm to fit around that date and awaiting a reply.

I'll have to see what solution he comes up with but seems trustworthy enough to fit it.

I hope I wasn't a bit tight with the money tbh. Mum said when he asked for £50 is that enough and I gave him £60 but that was all I had in my wallet in notes and was an unexpected call as the text message saying he was ill was wrong.

I was thinking it would be around the £70 mark tbh.

Then he said he'd be round in an hour but was less than that.

Regarding the washing machine hose. Should I be ordering a long length hose or something with no joints in then? Or do you think I should leave it to him for now and he'd have those parts available anyway?

    Leave it all to him.
As for his charge, he asked for £50, and you gave him £60. That's a win-win in my book.
Possibly he didn't want to charge too much as it was mainly a site survey, with little actual graft? But, feel good about you giving him that bit extra, and not bad about whether it should be more.

Any chance of a photo of your boiler and surrounding plumbing? Show where this stopcock is too.
  • I will update with a photo of the boiler and surrounding area shortly when others are up so I don't disturb them.

I suppose it wasn't actually much work to do to swap a pipe out it's just he was round so quickly and here for over an hour I think hence why I thought it was on the cheaper side of things. Most others seems like it'd be January.

My mum said she thought he said maybe he wouldn't be able to do the washing machine before Christmas but I thought he said otherwise and thought I said something like "even if it was before Christmas" and to just let him know. I'm doubting myself now.

I did message and will follow up on messenger. Meant to message both in text and on messenger too to ask him. I have booked the washer for Tuesday delivery so hope I haven't got that wrong!

He hasn't replied to the text I sent yet so I'll just have to say I booked it for Tuesday on messenger and see what he says.

Honestly could have sworn he said to just let him know when it comes and he'd do it and thought I asked him whilst he was explaining about the boiler flow/ rise so I'll have to hope I'm right.

  • I'll update with the photos now and the plumber said he can come round on the 21st at 09:30.

Missed his messenger message yesterday and checked messenger but nothing was showing. Duno if my phone is playing up but the message was not there and I checked after the time it was sent too.

I just said I'd been looking/ will be looking into the company he told me about (regarding help with boiler/ free boiler) but that it may be on a per year basis possibly and that the 21st was fine  for the washer installation.

I asked if he was available for the boiler issue as well (as it sounded urgent or at least best to be get fixed and serviced) which has an issue with the diverter and he said it wasn't an issue from a safety point of view and as I asked about pricing he said let me take a look tomorrow (meaning today as it was sent Friday).

I replied and said just let me know when you can with a thumbs 👍 but was very late replying due to not getting his message till this afternoon.

I'll send these photos of the boiler area and stopcock (stoptap?). Can I use them interchangeably?

    Anyway the photos below

  • Sorry - not really clear enough what's going on there for me to advise.
But, when your plumber does come out, I suggest you ask him to fully determine how to turn off the mains supply to your house in case you have a future leak. There should be ONE cold rising main stopcock that shuts off everything.
  • No problem. Yes that one is the one under the sink that shuts off everything and not sure why there is that additional one there unless it's just to shut it off for the boiler.

I'll have to remember to ask him when he comes.

I think that is the cold feed to the boiler as i think only the pipes on the other side get hot which I partially lagged with an aluminium bubble foil to prevent burning myself if I was mooching in the cupboard and possible marginal efficiency gains (if any at all). No harm in that is there?

I'll try to ask him what it is for but I'm pretty sure the one under the sink is the one that turns all water off. It did when we had a leak when my brother hit a pipe one time and subsequently broke off which started all this I think.

It used to house an immersion heater till the central heating was put in and the boiler.

Forgot to ask him about the TRV'S as well as I think they need need changing as I may have mentioned before. Although I could try and release the one in my room myself the others are pretty stuck I think definitely in my mum's room and living room anyway.

I just sometimes have my mum saying don't mither him while he's doing a job (which is fair enough) though feel some questions are necessary to ask and have answered at the appropriate time and probably best writing some down or something and asking at a convenient point.

It would make sense that the sink one shuts off everything. That's as it should be.
You are also likely correct that the sc shown in your pic shuts off the cold supply to your boiler, so that effectively means it shuts off the supply to your hot taps.
That's all easily tested. Close that sc, and check that all your hot taps don't run.
But also check all your cold taps, flush the loo, etc., to confirm it doesn't affect these.
Only the kitchen one should shut off everything.
And when you reopen that, and any, sc, open it all the way, and then close it a good half turn. That won't affect the flow at all, but will make the SC less likely to seize in the open position.

Thanks. That's good advice regarding closing the stopcock half a turn.

Obviously the last guy to touch the stopcock would have been the plumber I think so I assume he'd have closed it off a bit and one more thing I best check/ make sure about.

I best write some of this down to ask him. He hasn't got back to me on a price yet for the boiler and I kinda don't wanna be asking him again/ mithering someone who may be busy.

It probably didn't help I didn't get his message till the day he said he'd take a look apparently sent the day before anyway.

I may check or ask the plumber to check as I kinda don't wana mess anything up, not that closing a stopcock should be anything other than straight forward but a bit of a jinx at times.

I hope the install price will include taking the shipping bolts out of the drum not that it would be complicated.

Due tomorrow and then got to work out how to get the old machine outside as I haven't paid to get rid of the old machine.

Mum said they may have a trolley at work but if not then another thing maybe could have planned better although it was the last one in stock apparently.

Hoping this goes better than the fridge we bought that was damaged in transit twice, sent a refurb the third time with a broken part and then was fine thankfully the last time.

Same delivery company as well so a bit anxious about it especially as they said they don't accept returns for damage after 48 hours or something which I found a bit disconcerting.

Edit :- after reading again it says check item for damage before signing and mentions 48 hours to report any issues so cutting it fine really as it's only being installed Thursday but I hope there won't be any issues. Really hope not this time anyway.

Well washing machine arrived today and looks nice apart from the usual delivery issues we have with things.

I'm glad I asked the guys delivering what they thought about the email I received as they said they were happy to unpack it given I only have 48 hours to report an issue should there be one.

It's a good job I did as a part was hanging down which they have managed to clip back on but really not confidence inspiring to see something new dangling down and wouldn't have known about it otherwise if not for them unpacking it.

Apart from that it seems ok though I think. Don't know whether it should screw on or be loose like that though tbh so just hoping it isn't serious and just a result of being carried in but reported it anyway and the delivery company took their own pictures as I didn't know what to do about it.

I took delivery in the end and just reported it straight away anyway over live chat and took a screenshot of the chat in addition to requesting a transcript (which didn't send) so good job I took a screenshot.

I also emailed with the photos so I've got something in writing.
