@[Deleted User] It's definitely not under control yet. I will try and add an SOA.

    My expenditure for 8/12/23
    • Moth repellent for wardrobe - £13.50
    • Second-hand book for book club (not available via library or Kindle unfortunately) - £6.37
    Total: £19.87

    My expenditure for 9/12/23
    • Public transport - £3
    • Weekly food shop - £46.61
    • Thermal top/underlayer - £16.10
    Total: £65.71

    My expenditure for 10/12/23
    • Contact lenses - £27.73
    • Postage for an online return - £2.95
    Total: £30.68

Every one of my jumpers, bar one which is too big, was attacked my moths this year. It seemed a really bad year. They really are a pain and not easy to get rid of.
  • Here is my SOA, sorry for the delay!

Things to note: the bill payments are all halved, apart from rent where I pay a 3rd (hence why it seems low for London!).

Truthfully I earn a fairly good salary and could pay off my debt quickly, but due to various reasons (trauma from an abusive childhood, other mental health issues - not that these are excuses!!) I continue to waste any leftover money on silly impulse purchases, luxury goods, and things I don't need for a brief distraction/high from my other problems. Hence trying to start this diary for accountability. I desperately want to pay off this debt and save a deposit for a property but it feels like a million miles away.

    Anyway...

    well done!
  • You should be able to pay off your debts in 8 months on the basis of your SOA (4529/577 = 7.85). You could do it in 6 months if you didn't buy any clothes for that period, or just bought a few things but cut out a few social events. Even so, being debt-free in 8 months is good. It's a fairly short time frame so you won't feel like it's going to take forever.
  • Thanks @Cloth_of_Gold - I am aiming to do it within six months, fingers crossed.

  • Is the other adult a partner? Is any of the debt joint? Why do you pay  half the bills but only one third of the rent? Keep a check on those takeaways and coffees as money can soon leak way on those!
