PCN appeal

Thanks everyone for the help on this, ive read back through the newbies thread and feel more confident about the process. I wanted to ask for clarification on the price rises. So currently its a debt collectors stage and they want £170. When it gets passed back to the PPC and then most likely given back to a solicitor. Do they tend to ask for the same amount or does that keep rising? If they issue a before claims letter, will that state how much they intend to claim for. If it was to go to small claims, I believe i saw that you pay £40 to defend. If you win do you still have to pay the original £100 PCN? or is it completely wiped. What is the typical values they try to claim against. Is it only £200 or do they try and claim a lot more? Also do you have the option to pay after the claims letter?
Sorry if this has been asked multiple times before, its my first time and just trying to get a better understanding of what I'm getting myself in for.

It stays at £170 but Judges do not award that. The £70 is false.
And it costs zero to defend (of course defendants don't have to pay!). To answer your concerns:
I believe i saw that you pay £40 to defend. No.If you win do you still have to pay the original £100 PCN?
No.
or is it completely wiped.
Yes.

£170 plus small claim fees. They can't claim more and PPCs don't win these cases, anyway!
Also do you have the option to pay after the claims letter?
Yes - but you won't do that! It would be totally ridiculous, given even if you lost, you'd pay less!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Right so because the claim is for less than £300 its £35 claim fee. So worse comes to worse and i lost id only being paying £205 so yeah 100% worth fighting it!
Thanks for the help, ive sent an email to my MP, is there anything else i can do to help my case now or just leave it till i get a claim before letter and follow the instructions on the newbies thread.
