Hi am in the same boat as many others here. Had an enforcement notice come through for £32k for money due for a Cavity Wall Claim handled by SSB LAW. I've called the Burnley County Court and they were helpful in directing me to completing the N244 application for 'Stay of the Writ' (first action) which is £14. Apparently there are lots of people effected many just in the Burnley Crown Court let alone nationally.  This only however will buy some time until we can seek legal advice. I will also be writing my MP.

Is there strength in numbers? any particular solicitors that people are recommending? are there grounds to get a judgement set aside?
I used a local solicitor JN Law in Bradford who helped me to understand the urgency of the situation I was facing. The court order I had was for £10k and I originally thought I had 28 days to pay. Jamil (one of the partners @ JN Law) explained that I only had 14 days to pay this order, of which 7 had already passed. He advised I speak to SSB and try to get the bill of costs from them, SSB initially tried to ignore my emails and on the phone the admin staff kept saying I would get a call back from the directors which didn’t happen. Eventually the admin people at SSB took pity on me after I kept calling and explaining how dire the situation was and sent me the bill and emails from the defendant solicitor. I was then left by SSB to negotiate with the defendant solicitors by myself after SSB emailed me and washed their hands of me. Thankfully I was assisted by JN Law who helped me contact and settle the final costs bill of £15k yesterday. As others have stated, JN Law have said it looks as if there is a professional negligence claim against SSB, Jamil also said I was the 6th person to approach him in a week relating to SSB and that relatively speaking the amount I had to pay was not that much. This is such a mess, everyone just make sure you get proper independent legal advice as fast as possible and hopefully things don’t get out of hand.
  • @Kab, So what was the actual costs, so the county court was ok with it? £15k!?’
  • Seems there were some investors that funded SSB, and likely the Claims which are now screwing normal people over. Company called Katch listed as charge on Companies House with a reference to Cavity Wall Insulation funding on their website.

Jamil @JN Law in Bradford managed to get me ahead of the county court process, so I was able to negotiate and settle their final costs bill which was £15k, the interim charging order was for £10k at the county court. But by settling directly I was able to finalise the defendants costs claim against me. It could be that you resolve an interim charging order but this is only part of the bill. It is so crucial that you get independent legal advice to help you get out of this mess.
  • Hi there
I’ve been dealing with SSB for years, complaining throughout & am one of the many CWI victims in Bradford who had one of Mr Miller’s ‘surveyors’ tell me I had a claim.
My case reads the same as the 4 that are in the press - case fee not paid properly & surveyor’s report being a cut & paste BUT I have video evidence from inside all the cavities showing there is some, no, drips of insulation inside so I knew I had a strong case.
I had to ‘agree’ for my case to be stopped due to SAB’s negligence & have 4 piles of papers unopened that I forced SSB to send me, that I intended to use to pursue them as I was told my case couldn’t be taken to court even if I went to another solicitor.
I feel dreadful for all the people on here who have letters asking for extortionate fees & am sceptical why I’ve never received one. Completely out of the blue I’ve received a letter from SSB today saying my case has been handed over to another company (another dodgy one?) & it looks like it’ll proceed????
Please can you add me to the WhatsApp group & also is there any update on who to contact. I had no idea they’d gone into administration until I searched online after I received the letter & don’t know what to do. As all of you will know, the stress of dealing with and against a company(ies) that is negligent & will probably get away with their failings (inc the CWI company that I am certain has posted on this thread) is just too much.
Any advice would be gratefully received & I’m happy to go to the press/join a group in the area

So did you manage to get a reduction in final settlement or did you actually pay the full £15K. If you paid in full then I don't see the benefit of dealing with the defendants via a solicitor. You could have just paid them without paying a solicitor to do it.

What is the name of the solicitors they have given you.
  • My claim was shut down by SSB in November 2023 & originally bankrupted Seth Lovis  in 2019, my CWI reports were not even completed by SSB..my older Claim as others was likely there to prop up the investors for the new cases where they understated the value thus creating fraudulent docs to reduce the court fees.😱  The final position letter from the litigator @SSB states 'If we do not receive any further instructions from you by 09/11/2023, we will close your file of papers. We will not take any further steps to progress your claim. This will bring your claim @SSB to an end and mean that you will not get any compensation but it also means that you will have no adverse costs exposure'' the same letter asked for £25k upfront to carry on outside of 'no win no fee' 🤣 It looks like however the file has been passed on to a JMR who are not re-opening the closed cases but they are auditing them.. Surely the SRA & financial conduct authority/ ombudsman/ BBC etc.. should be all over this especially if for those receiving CCJs. We were mis sold the CWI to start with (government backed scheme etc) then 'mis sold' the claims process. It's an outrageous situation

Alisa they are passing on the cases to another company but that doesn't mean it will definitely proceed. They will simply review. I would get in touch with the company and find our your position. I doubt if SSB LAW dropped it will be taken any further.  They have done this for the majority of the cases so I would not immediately worry.

I would still confirm the situation with JMR
