if you are using the App on IOS , Try putting your device into airplane mode
then open the App up , it will say network error etc
Then turn on WiFi/data again , it should then give you the option to login using your usual pin

This time yes, previous outages have been app only.Nasqueron said:
All their systems were down in the backend, you wouldn't have been able to get online or use the app regardless of method of authenticationKxMx said:I did question their wisdom a few years ago when HSBC basically forced a digital secure key onto all app users. Previously with a physical secure key you could still use online banking when the app was down. Now it's app/digital or online/physical.1 -

the HSBC UK app has increased functionality IMO compared to the old HSBC appLions_89 said:The system has never been the same since they split and made HSBC UK. The app
changed and the new one had less features. I was overseas recently and attempted to use an HSBC branch, it was no use other than withdrawing like a generic atm.4 -

I don’t know about now, it was many years ago, but it certainly didn’t when it was first released.0 -

Also, these days you will often see IMHO which means ‘in my humble opinion’.2 -
the Original HSBC apps were quite poor, didn;t have cheque paying in by image facility, still doesn;t have 'code for cash from an atm without a card' but can do a lot of things via the app or from webpages launched by the app.Lions_89 said:

I think for the 2015 or 2016 era they were sufficient. Compared to today’s apps it was poor but so were other apps at the time.EnPointe said:
