HSBC down
HSBC has apologised as thousands of UK customers have reported they are unable to access mobile and online banking.
Downdetector, which tracks websites, showed more than 4,100 people reported they could not access HSBC services.
The problem comes on Black Friday, a day when many will make purchases due to the discounts offered by retailers.
The bank said it was "really sorry for the inconvenience", and told the BBC the disruption was due to "an internal system issue".

I switched to backup accounts at Lloyds.

A useful reminder that it's always wise to have a backup bank account with money in it in case your man account is unavailable.

I did question their wisdom a few years ago when HSBC basically forced a digital secure key onto all app users. Previously with a physical secure key you could still use online banking when the app was down. Now it's app/digital or online/physical.2

Perfectly timed for Black Friday!0

All their systems were down in the backend, you wouldn't have been able to get online or use the app regardless of method of authenticationKxMx said:I did question their wisdom a few years ago when HSBC basically forced a digital secure key onto all app users. People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It’s still not working for me. So from 9am
there are issues. Not good. I had a few shops with issues over the last month as well but this was Barclays payments machine. The gov really needs to require minimum service for physical visits and payments until the technology is more reliable.

I've been able to a couple of times today. Login is slow but once in it zips along quite nicely. Probably the luck of which server(s) you're assigned to.Lions_89 said:It’s still not working for me. So from 9am

Still can’t get in myself. Been since 9 am this morning for me. Ridiculous it hasn’t been fixed yet I feel, but then I’m aware there’s probably a large issue that can’t suddenly be solved.1

It's taking them a while to train up the replacement hamster:

The system has never been the same since they split and made HSBC UK. The app
changed and the new one had less features. I was overseas recently and attempted to use an HSBC branch, it was no use other than withdrawing like a generic atm.
