I got the following email.  I recently cancelled my o2 on the phone.  Total nightmare getting through to anyone, they were deliberately trying to be difficult not picking up etc.  Obviously from accent the people i spoke to were African.   Could I still have to pay the below fee?   Or is this a scam?    Why can't they just take the money?

I probably wouldn't put my email address on a public forum.
Are the mobile number and account number correct?
It looks genuine enough, but just log onto your account and see what it says rather than clicking the link.

Why didn’t you just get a PAC or STAC from the automated service? No need to phone.

STAC, what's that?   I know PAC is when you transfer your number

    You’re welcome ☺️
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Looks legitimate to me. Did your phone number end 4186?

If you log onto your O2 account you'll find a breakdown of the bill showing what the charges are for.

The reason they can't "just take the money" is because there is no Direct Debit mandate in place. Did you cancel a DD instruction with your bank when you cancelled the service?

I enjoy any interactions I'm lucky to have with "Africans" but that's rather irrelevant to a discussion about the legitimacy or otherwise of an email.
  • Looks like it is genuine and remarkably easy to check if you do owe that amount.

    Why mention accents?
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Yes, ends in 4186.  I just want to cancel the sim, how?  I called again then she said you'roue in contract then said you're not in contract.  Then hung up.  Total joke.

    Thxs.  went on link

It says sorry you're thinking of leaving and my STAC-  421412TEL  and ends on 23rd Dec.   Do I have to do something e.g. text it somewhere  or has it finally cancelled?  Is there more to do?  Confused.

If I dont pay that money- £11,will I get fined?

If you don't want to keep your number then Stac to a different provider and when the Stac goes over your O2 contract will end and the your number will be gone....they will give you a new number.

if you want to keep your number you will have to Pac it over to a different provider then you keep your number and the contract from O2 will be finished

As for the money you could just wait for a final bill or go online and pay it......If you leave it O2 will give you a bad mark on your credit file history. (for none payment.)
