Hiya! I'm new myself and it's great that there are apople out there wjho want to help!!
I've read the advice on here for ages and i've set up a budget and i also brought a small cash notebook from wh smith for 69p. I put my available balance in it (left over from the bill) and every time i use CASH i reduce the balance. So far it has kept me in check and i leave my cards at home . This has helped me take a bit of control. It ain't always pretty but at leastyou may have an ideas of where you are. I'd also cancel my direct debits and get in touch with the said companies. Good luck

 Could I ask how the expenses are shared? Is it that you are paying more than your share or does it work out.

  • Hi all

monkensef - Thanks ! another great tool in fight against Don Debtorini and the Money Mafia !

Got me a cut price A4 diary and set up a spreadsheet on Microsoft Excel to budget to the last penny.

This is really working ! I can see just how much I spend per month as well write down thoughts on a daily basis.

TH - I pay all the bills the other half pays for Sky, House / Life insurance and Mortgage.

    Update :
Sorted out the DD crisis - amazing how flexible they can be now ! all the DD's come out after I get paid on the 6th (between the 8th and the 10th to allow for weekends and bank hols)

With exception of the council tax I set up new DD's

I went to a local AA meeting last Saturday and was the only person to say "My Name is Mike I'm not an alcoholic" !

When I told them about my debting problem they could see how it realtes and were all very supportive - I'm now in the process of learing more with the aim of setting up a Debtors Anon Group for the South Wales area.

The Mobile Phone and ISP tariffs will be changed today to minimise monthly payments.

I'm teaching my right foot not to accelerate over the speed limit and will hopefully bin the road angel subscription at the end of this month!

I'm now going to get hold of anything that's gathering dust and flog it on fleabay.

    More updates to follow

  • Thanks Maz :)

Changed the ISP to works discounted package - gone from paying £30 pm to £13 PM for the same service / speed

    woohoo !

Mobile phone is going to be tricky, I'm half way through an 18 month contract with Orange and would like to sign up to Virgin Mobile to take advantage of another great staff discount.

Over to the phone forums for me :D
