When does saving become stingy!

Yes, I agree but if no one left tips he'd still get the minimum wage.0

I work in a cafe/bar restaurant (day time only) as Supervisor.
I disagree with the fact that staff should rely on their tips but any given are gratefully received and we share between ALL the staff working on any particular day from the wash up staff to me the supervisor.
Customers put on average between a pound or two into the tip pot as they pay. Some generous people put in more.
Some tight wads will put the 5p change in the box and I feel like saying "Take it with you....your need is obviously greater than ours"
I would say that your every day people tip better and more consistently than the well off.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -

I like to have a drink (or 4) as much as the next person, but when money is tight, that's the first thing to go. I would never consider smuggling in my own booze, especially to a wedding, where the food is paid for by someone else. I'd imagine that the hosts would be mortified if they found out.
And as someone who worked in bars and restaurants for many years, I am always appalled by people who somehow think that tipping is optional. The person serving you is depending on tips to pay their rent and buy
food. Their salary (and, consequently, the price of your meal) reflects the expectation that they will receive tips. If the service is bad, then don't tip. But if you refuse to tip for good service, then not only are you stingy, but are stealing from the server. There was actually a case in the States a few years ago where a restaurant owner had a customer arrested for "theft of service". That man is my hero.
The food may have been paid for by the hosts - the bar drinks were not.
We wanted to have a drink and didn't want to pay rip-off prices. (It was about £4.50 for a G&T). The hosts knew and were not bothered, in fact they wished they had thought of it.
And I don't agree with tipping, I think it is terrible that people have to rely on tips in this day and age (as someone else has said there is a minimum wage), so I will not subscribe to prolonging a practice I think is demeaning to both me and the employee.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

When your quality of life changes from being acceptable to deprivation, just for the sake of saving money. Of course, one person's economy is another person's unbearable deprivation so each individual has to work out their own bottom line across the range of what they normally buy.
Example? My family can't bear any other kind of brown sauce than HP, so it's a waste to buy other brands. But they're quite happy with supermarket ketchup, so that's what they get.
Have you tried the sneaky filling up the branded bottle with unbranded sauce?
My OH refused to eat anything other than Weetabix until I pointed out he'd been eating Tesco for a month!
Doesn't always work as sometimes the branded is just better (or just too different).
Don't tell them what you've done though, else you won't be able to use the trick another time, just say "Oh, perhaps its just a dodgy bottle, I'll take it back and get a new one"7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -

I am always appalled that tipping is considered part of the wage - you should be paid a fair wage for a fair days work and, should the client be particularly pleased with the service provided, then it should be a bonus as a reward.

That is disgusting!!
We share our tips out on a day to day basis depending on who has worked that day and for how many hours.
The owners do not even touch them!! The supervisor of the day sorts them out and it takes minutes. Hardly a costly business
If people want to put the tip on their card then that is fine and we take the appropriate cash from the till to go in the tip pot.
Everything tallies at the end of the day ( I know because I cash up) so no problem surely?
I used to work for another boss though that said he used the tips instead of going to the bank for loose change and would share the tips out once a month.
We would have to ask him constantly for them and sometimes they would be left for 3 months or so then we would get about £15 each. I get more than that in 3 days now so he was obviously ripping us off but what do you do? If you cause a scene you are liable to be told to "Get another job if you don't like it!"
Tips are for the staff on the shop floor and should NOT be touched by anyone else.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -

Ever thought it was your wife's cooking and not the biscuits. I can't see any reason why using value biscuits would have made any difference.

I use value digestives all the time and have never had this sort of problem.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0
