It would be an interesting experiment, get 1 sim 100 days before travelling and 1 sim 7 days before travelling. Use 1mb or so on each prior to travel then use half your limit for three weeks and see whether one or both sims triggers the message that you are using more data in eu than in uk.
Perhaps the answer is to sign up to a new deal just before you travel so they have no reference point for your UK usage?0 -
I understand that the intention is to prevent abuse of the roaming facility. My concern is that, when at home in the UK, the vast majority of my phone usage is where I have a good WiFi connection and hence do not use my data allowance very much. I commonly use less than 0.3 GB/month. When travelling on holiday, etc., I am likely to want both to use my phone more and use it much more without a WiFi connection: navigation, browsing tourist websites, etc.
I have no desire to abuse the system but, other than artificially making use of my data allowance when I don't need to while in the UK, I cannot see how to prevent falling foul of this rule.1
