I would say it's a good idea to encourage current account holders from FD's point of view, however they may have done better if they had simply given £10 to those loyal customers under the same conditions.

I also think 21 transactions in 21 days is a bit of a tall order just to be eligible, I would think this is higher than the average. Indeed I use my Chase card the most but I would probably not use it more than 10 times.

... another one donating their chance to the Lobster.

Why is there a link in the email to opt out?

Surely you just need to not use the card the required number of times??

Think I've had that card for nearly a year, and only used it once.
Some people have an aversion to games of chance, and need the opportunity to exclude themselves.

I can’t see it working for me. First Direct has been my least useful current account, with the 7% saver being the only attraction.
Just seems a bit pointless. I won't be using the card, and I won't be opting out either.
  • I've done Prolific surveys for 15p so I'm not averse to scrabbling around for pennies, but even I can't be bothered to do this for the slim chance of a return. The odds of OP winning have further increased by +1.

They've set the bar too high for me. If it was 10 transactions I might have been tempted. I wouldn't manage 21 transactions in 21 days even if I moved all my normal spending to First Direct, which is presumably their aim. I'd have to "manufacture" transactions somehow, which surely isn't the intention of the promo.

    Good luck OP  :)

It feels like they just do random offers for different people. I got an offer before to use my debit card from First Direct. For me it was like 10 transactions to get £15 donated to a choice of charity. I did do it but they haven't sent me an email about choosing a charity...

Didn't get an email about this.

Yes, some banks/BS do specials or promotions for a selected group but always for commercial reasons, even when in the case of Nationwide a few months ago it was a 'reward' for having at least £100 saved.

I did get the e-mail but I've never used the card or the current account apart from the SO to the regular saver.

Honestly I don't use it either besides the Regular Saver, but I figured using the card for some small purchases like bus tickets, or depositing in savers wasn't too much trouble.

The Amazon daily £1 thing is by far the lowest-effort way to accumulate lots of small debit card transactions, assuming you will spend the money at Amazon at some point.

FD have not (yet) sent me that offer but I'll probably go for it if they do.

I haven't got the offer, either. I have been an FD customer for at least 13 years, because I am now on my 14th FD Regular Saver. Not a whiff of rewarding loyal customers, despite claiming they'd be "nowhere without you" in the mail selected FD customers did receive :)

Might be that the target audience for the prize draw are current account holders like me - never used the debit card before yesterday, in fact it's still stuck to the letter it arrived on. Only have the FD account for the 7% saver.

Although I still can't see why I would continue to spend after this promotion.

Maybe the whole thing is just to generate a lot of DC traffic to up some metric somewhere that's important for a ranking or some such.
