Is my TV broken and in need of replacement ?

Options
I have a TV and the display has been fuzzy on all freeview channels except a channel called ThatsTV .  I have ran the scan to try to retune it but ever single other freeview channel is fuzzy

Does anyone know what is wrong ? I was thinking of buying a new TV but i am just suspicious that is not a problem with the TV if this particular channel is working perfectly well

thank you

Plug another device in, perhaps a usb stick with a video/movie on and see if it plays ok from an external source.
  • Digital channels by their very nature cannot be "fuzzy" (unlike the old analogue days), if the signal was weak the picture would possible break up, but never be described as fuzzy. This sounds more like a screen issue with the TV.
  • The TV brand is bush but its not HD . I guess its more correct to say that the picture is breaking up.  Everything was fine until about 2-3 weeks ago and we have had the tv for over 5 years. As i say im just surprised that there is one tv channel that is not affected out of about 20 or so other ones.  A friend came round and plugged in their mini TV and everything was working well on on their one.
Is it really an issue with the TV ?  If it is then why is there one channel that isnt affected.
  • Also the TV links to radio stations and these radio stations eg LBC,  classic FM are sounding crackly

So as this is not HD then it must be older than 5 years? If so then i guess you are not receiving channels by internet/wifi? but by aerial? More info needed.
I don't think there has been a non HD TV made in the last 20 years.

2-3 weeks ago we had quite a few storms across the country.
    Where is the aerial?
    Could that have moved?

I'll be interested to hear if you can resolve this OP, as I am having the same problem. I have 2 older freeview TVs in the house, and the picture on both started breaking up a few weeks ago. If it was one, I'd suspect the TV, but not both. I did read somewhere that the storms had affected TV transmitters, but can'r remember where I saw it and would have expected it to be sorted by now. My outside aerial hasnt moved. So I'm stumped as to what to do.

A simple test is to check channels 1, 3, 11, 12, 16 & 46 (which is HD if available). These are each on a different multiplex which often transmit at different strengths so some may work and others not so well.  Generally 1, 3 & 46 work well but 11, 12 & 16 are often weaker and can be disrupted.  All the BBC radio stations are linked to channel 1 and the rest to 11, 12 & 16.  Strange if 56 is working and not 12.
  • Im afraid im going to have to give up on this and try to source a new tv at the weekend . I have trued tuning it and no difference
I guess it is perhaps older than 5 years but it definitely receives no channels via internet.wifi, it plugs into the wall via a white cable . does that go to an aerial ?

This isnt the first time in the past few years that there has been bad weather so im not convinced it is weather related. In addition when the smaller pocket tv was used to test  via plugging it into the wall , the pocket TV worked fine

Only the channel called Thats TV is working all others are not but i dont know why
