No fault and claiming from other party - what should show on my car insurance?
In July somebody scraped across the front of my parked, stationary car. I was not in my car at the time. They admitted liability and wished to go through their insurance and I have received the money from their insurance company for the damage.
I am concerned that when my car insurance is next up for renewal (in January) this may show as a 'no fault claim' despite not claiming on my car insurance.
I would be grateful to hear what should show on my records with my car insurance company please?
Thank you for your help.

I thought you were obliged to notify your insurer even if you don't need their assistance.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. However, my question is what should be correctly showing on my car insurance records bearing in mind that I did not claim from my car insurance company.0 -
It should show as a non-fault claim, as you did claim, albeit not from your own insurer.
Any resulting premium increase will probably be negligible in the context of the inevitable massive inflation!0 -
There is a central database that claims get logged to. You will have to declare a non fault claim to any insurer you get a quote from. If it doesn't show on the auto generated renewal you need to advise them of such a claim against a 3rd party.0

My insurance shows number of claims 1 type of claim accident. and then the date of the accident and then at the end it states not at fault
my car was hit on the road outside my house when parked and unoccupied
and with my insurer this will remain on my policy for four years

You have to declare it for as long as the insurer you are getting a quote from asks. Usually the question is have you have any accidents or claims in the last X years. One insurer may have a different declaration period to another.0

Thank you for your replies and it seems from the replies the only way for this to be recorded is as a 'no-fault claim' even though I didn't even claim from my own insurance company. It's annoying because from looking online it would appear that my premiums will likely increase because of this.0

People get hung up about increased premiums, but in my experience a single non-fault claim makes little or no difference.0 -

and yes your next years premium may increase because some car insurance companies are using artificial intelligence for renewal quotes and the system has been told that as somebody that has had a claim In the past means you're statistically more likely to make additional claims in future
regardless of what we think that is just how it is0
