Am I the only one that thinks the suggestion someone becomes vulnerable when they hit 65 is kind of funny - given the state pension age is currently 66 and rising :)

My mother turns 70 next week and if I suggested she was in anyway incapable of looking after her own affairs she'd thump me.

The question would be if the person actually registered as vulnerable with their energy supplier BEFORE the problem (which might have entitled them to some support understanding and resolving the billing problem sooner, if not the outcome) - if not, then it just sounds like special pleading.

I don't know where the OP got that idea from -  even with Covid you had to be over 70

The days when once you reached the pension age of 65 (now 67) and were written off are long gone. I'm in my mid 70's and quite capable of fighting my own battles with pleading old age.

Take that £75 - take the wife out for a good evening - and enjoy the rest of your life.

It's a different thing but our DNO sets the threshold at 60 for their Priority Services Register. However the SSEN lady did say that their response will depend on each person's actual circumstances, for example they might attend with power pack or generator for someone with critical medical needs, but won't do so just because you're 60.
